RIM BlackBerry recently introduced BlackBerry BES Express, featuring FREE software and CALs while delivering the basic connectivity, security, and management functions of RIM BlackBerry BES Server including wireless synchronization and remote availability of files and programs. But the cost cuts don't end at free software and Client Access Licenses (CALs). Customers now have the option to select the BlackBerry Internet Service wireless data carrier plan instead of the BES wireless data carrier plan, saving you up to $20 a month for each of your BlackBerry clients!
BlackBerry BES Server Express can be deployed on a Microsoft Exchange or Small Business Server, which can handle up to 75 users, or on a dedicated server to support as many as 2,000 clients. BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express is a great alternative for smaller organizations who before now couldn't afford connecting employees' BlackBerry smartphones to their corporate network.
The Express edition of RIM BlackBerry BES Server does not offer high availability, system monitoring, mirroring, or desk phone/PBX integration and limits the number of supported policies from 450 to 35. Also, BIS BlackBerry smartphone wireless data plan clients will have to execute the first direct-attached enterprise activation to integrate with the BES. Subsequently they will have the complete BlackBerry wireless messaging and personal organizer data environment which includes scheduling, address books, tasks, and notes. Users with the BES wireless data carrier plan can still enterprise activate their devices wirelessly.
