Broadwing Network consultingBroadwing delivers innovative data, voice, and media solutions to enterprises and service providers. Enabled by its leading-edge optical network and award-winning products and services, Broadwing Communications provides communications solutions with unparalleled customer focus and speed. Broadwing is the first carrier to complete a nationwide, all-optically switched network. Broadwing's award-winning network spans the continental U.S. and unlike many competitors, Broadwing's network is lit and ready to provide you prompt, precise delivery of services.

Broadwing Competitive Positioning
In 2000, Broadwing deployed the nation's first fully optically switched backbone network operating in 29 major metropolitan markets nationwide and offering the lowest latency and highest performance of any backbone network.

Broadwing specializes in providing cost competitive high-speed Internet links for businesses and is especially competitive for circuits such as fractional or full T3 lines.

The 2004 merger with Focal Communications elevated Broadwing from a national data-only provider into a full service communications organization with a diverse family of data and voice services. Broadwing can provide business customers with cost competitive digital and analog voice services including POTS, ISDN PRI, T1, and T3.

For multi-office environments, Broadwing can terminate local phone numbers from any Broadwing-served market into a single location using traditional TDM delivery (ISDN, T1). Such capabilities are ideal for organizations looking to centralize their voice communications infrastructure, and especially for multi-location organizations that are deploying state-of-the-art VoIP phone systems.

Broadwing's Data Services
Broadwing data transport options provide a wide range of speed, security, capacity, and expense parameters so you can find a solution that fits your business requirements. With an ATM backbone at the core of Broadwing's Frame Relay/ATM network, Broadwing creates a trouble-free migration path from lower frame relay speeds to higher ATM speeds as your bandwidth demands increase. Broadwing offers true frame relay to ATM services interworking (FRASI), giving you the ability to have frame relay and ATM nodes within the same WAN. Broadwing Data Services available through Progent include:

  • Frame Relay
Broadwing Frame Relay service enables your business to fulfill data, voice, video, and other multimedia traffic requirements within one network without the cost and inflexibility of a leased line. This service is well suited for connecting local area networks (LANs) and easily scalable to meet your changing business requirements.

  • Frame Relay over DSL
By integrating DSL access into your traditional frame relay network, you can reduce access costs by more than 50% while still maintaining the reliability and benefits of a private WAN solution. Broadwing FRoDSL service includes two local access options for maximum geographic reach. SDSL is available in multiple port speeds including 192 kbps, 384 kbps, 768 kbps, 1.1 mbps, and 1.5 mbps. SDSL is available up to 8,000 feet from the central office. IDSL provides a 144 kbps port speed and is available up to 40,000 feet from the central office.

  • ATM
Broadwing ATM service supports today's multi-protocol, multi-vendor data environments. The ATM service seamlessly integrates with frame relay networks and allows you to have one network for voice, video, and data. ATM is the premier technology for wide area networks (WANs) and enterprise networks because of its strength in real-time, delay-intolerant applications.

  • Private Line
Broadwing's end-to-end, dedicated circuits are designed for full duplex, isochronous transmission of digital and optical signals and are delivered to you over the world's first all-optical switched network. Bandwidth ranges from DS1 (1.544 mbps) to OC192 (10 gbps). As a truly private networking solution, operating at layer one of the Open System Interconnection (OSI) Model, Private Line offers the highest level of WAN security.
Broadwing's Voice Services
Broadwing offers a full array of dedicated and switched voice services including long distance, toll-free, audio conferencing and other enhanced voice services. The Broadwing voice network is built on industry-standard Nortel DMS switches operated on the industry's only all-optical network. Combined with flexible rate plans, web-based reporting tools, and excellent customer support, Broadwing can deliver the end-to-end voice services that your business needs. Broadwing Voice Services available through Progent include:
  • Switched and Dedicated Voice Services
Broadwing offers Switched Voice Long Distance services in the Continental United States. With Broadwing's Dedicated Voice Services Portfolio you have options to connect your business with a dedicated DS1, DS3 or OCX connection to a conveniently located Broadwing switch. Broadwing will provide quality origination or call termination services to any location in the U.S. or around the world.

  • Enhanced Toll-Free Services
Broadwing's enhanced Routing 8XX service is designed to help you adjust quickly to changing customer needs. It's an excellent call-center solution for businesses who need the flexibility to re-route the termination of incoming 8XX calls quickly and easily, based on a number of variables. Origination Control allows the customer to choose who can terminate to their 8XX service. The restriction or allowance of calls is based on the geographic origination of the call and can be defined by NPA-NXX, LATA, state, or the U.S. and limited international regions.

  • Voice over IP
Broadwing’s Voice over IP (VoIP) Integrated Access services provide enterprises with robust, flexible solutions for meeting complex business communications challenges. By combining voice and data onto a single circuit, dynamically allocating bandwidth, and connecting directly to your PBX or key system, VoIP Integrated Access can drive down costs, increase efficiencies, and simplify your network. And because Broadwing VoIP combines its proven local and long distance voice network with its unique all-optical backbone, customers know their VoIP services will be secure, reliable, and high quality.
