Primary Functions

Work with a range of small companies to maintain IT environments based on Windows 7, Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows XP, MS Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Exchange 2007 Server and 2003 Server, and Microsoft's .NET servers. Work closely with customer's IS staff or deliver comprehensive IT outsourced services. Key areas of mastery include Exchange and Outlook, Active Directory design, security, server monitoring, and system architecture.

Cooperates Extensively with:
Chief Executive of Progent, Progent Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers and technical sales staff, plus CIO and top executives of small and midsize business clients in Northern California, and select areas throughout the United States


Support and repair MS Windows 2008 or 2003 Server-based computer networks. Work on-site and remotely to diagnose and fix both emergency and lingering issues related to reliability, security, throughput, connectivity, and overall capability.

Install, configure and integrate MS Windows-based program servers and MS .NET servers. Configure and deploy Microsoft Windows 7, Windows XP, and MS Windows Vista desktop environments. Configure and analyze various network services and applications.

Plan IT architectures and protections policies that promote client's business goals.

Support and manage Microsoft Outlook client with backoffice MS Exchange Server, Microsoft Office suite, telephony, and fast Internet access.

Plan and implement migrations to Windows 7, XP and Vista, Windows Server 2008 and 2003, Active Directory, and Microsoft Exchange 2007 Server and 2003 Server.

Maximize system reliability and performance via zero-downtime configuration, efficient network infrastructure, and proactive server monitoring.

Produce accurate records of the environment as it evolves.

Specify and order additional processor and communications equipment and/or software to support expansion and new functions.


Minimum Work Background
Microsoft Certified System Engineer, strong troubleshooting and diagnostic ability and communications skills, and the knowledge to implement quick workarounds to technical problems.

Understand how to to troubleshoot application problems such as workstation program integration issues, server issues, data service problems, and connectivity problems.

Open to trade knowledge with customers and coworkers and to escalate issues to additional engineers when appropriate.

Ability to work effectively in a virtual office infrastructure, delivering reliable follow-up and utilizing remote access and mobile technology. Familiarity with remote server monitoring programs and remote troubleshooting methodologies.

Physical Capability
Ability to react to off-hour network emergencies while on extended station.

Ability to lift, move, and reposition all components of client desktops, network hardware, printers and accessories.
