Main Functions

Work with a range of small firms to support IT environments powered by Microsoft Windows 7, Windows Vista, MS Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and 2003, MS Exchange 2007 Server and 2003 Server, and .NET platform. Work extensively with customer's IT staff or provide comprehensive IS outsourcing. Required areas of expertise include Exchange and Outlook, Active Directory design, Protection, network monitoring, and network architecture.

Interacts Extensively with:
CEO of Progent, Progent Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers and services sales managers, as well as Chief Information Officers and top management of small and midsize firm customers in the San Francisco Bay Area, and select cities across the U.S.


Maintain and troubleshoot MS Windows Server 2008 and 2003-powered IT networks. Work on-site and remotely to diagnose and fix both emergency and chronic issues related to availability, protection, capacity, connectivity, and overall capability.

Deploy, setup and integrate MS Windows-based application hosts and MS .NET servers. Configure and integrate Windows 7, Microsoft Windows XP, and Windows Vista workstation computers. Setup and evaluate various information utilities and applications.

Create network architectures and security strategies that support client's business goals.

Service and administer MS Outlook client with backoffice MS Exchange Server, Microsoft Office applications, telephony, and broadband Internet connection.

Plan and deploy migrations to Microsoft Windows 7, XP and Vista, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and 2003, Active Directory, and MS Exchange Server 2007 and 2003.

Maximize system uptime and capacity via non-stop configuration, smart system infrastructure, and automated network monitoring.

Create accurate documentation of the environment as it evolves.

Specify and order additional server and communications equipment and/or programs to accommodate expansion and additional functions.


Required Professional Background
Microsoft Certified System Engineer, proven troubleshooting and diagnostic skills and communications skills, and the experience to come up with quick workarounds to technical issues.

Understand how to to troubleshoot application problems including workstation program integration issues, host system issues, data service difficulties, and connectivity issues.

Willingness to trade knowledge with customers and colleagues and to escalate problems to Progent specialists when necessary.

Must be able to to work efficiently in a virtual office infrastructure, providing consistent follow-through and utilizing online access and mobile devices. Experience with remote server monitoring tools and remote analysis methodologies.

Physical Capability
Availability to respond to off-hour technical crises when on emergency station.

Ability to lift, move, and rearrange all components of user desktops, network appliances, and peripherals.
