Essential Functions

Assist a range of small and midsize companies to support computer environments based on Windows 7, MS Windows Vista, Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003, MS Exchange Server 2007 and 2003, and Microsoft's .NET servers. Cooperate closely with client's network support staff or deliver full-service IS outsourced services. Required areas of expertise include Exchange and Outlook, Active Directory, Protection, server monitoring, and system infrastructure.

Interacts Closely with:
Chief Executive of Progent, Progent MCSEs and services sales managers, plus CIO and senior executives of small business clients in the San Francisco Bay Area, and select areas across the U.S.


Support and repair Windows 2008 Server and Windows 2003 Server-powered IT networks. Work on-site and remotely to analyze and fix both emergency and lingering problems concerning uptime, security, performance, connectivity, and overall capability.

Install, setup and validate MS Windows-based application servers and .NET servers. Set up and deploy MS Windows 7, Microsoft Windows XP, and MS Windows Vista workstation computers. Configure and evaluate various network utilities and application programs.

Plan IT architectures and protections policies that promote customer's business growth.

Service and manage MS Outlook with backoffice Exchange Server, MS Office applications, telephony, and broadband Internet connection.

Design and implement upgrades to Microsoft Windows 7, XP and Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003, Active Directory, and MS Exchange 2007 and 2003 Server.

Maximize system uptime and throughput through fault-tolerant configuration, efficient system architecture, and proactive network monitoring.

Create on-going records of the environment as it expands.

Specify and order new processor and communications equipment and/or software to accommodate expansion and additional functions.


Minimum Work Background
MCSE, proven analysis and diagnostic skills and interpersonal skills, and the ability to implement temporary workarounds to technical issues.

Understand how to to resolve software issues such as desktop program configuration issues, host system problems, data service difficulties, and network access problems.

Open to exchange knowledge with clients and coworkers and to escalate problems to additional engineers when necessary.

Must be able to to operate efficiently in a virtual office environment, delivering reliable follow-up and utilizing offsite access and mobile technology. Familiarity with remote network monitoring tools and remote analysis methodologies.

Physical Capability
Willingness to respond to off-hour network crises when on extended station.

Capability to lift, move, and reposition all components of user workstations, network hardware, and accessories.
