Essential Activities

Assist a range of small firms to maintain IT networks based on Windows 7, Microsoft Windows Vista, MS Windows XP, Windows Server 2008 and 2003, MS Exchange Server 2007 and 2003, and Microsoft's .NET platform. Work extensively with customer's IT staff or deliver comprehensive IS outsourcing. Key fields of mastery include Exchange-based email, Active Directory, Protection, server monitoring, and network infrastructure.

Interacts Extensively with:
Chief Executive of Progent, Progent Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers and technical sales managers, plus Chief Information Officers and senior management of small company clients in the San Francisco Bay Area, and key areas throughout the U.S.


Responsibilities

Support and repair MS Windows 2008 or 2003 Server-based computer networks. Operate on-site and offsite to diagnose and resolve both emergency and chronic issues related to reliability, protection, performance, accessibility, and overall functionality.

Install, configure and validate MS Windows-based application servers and .NET servers. Configure and integrate MS Windows 7, Windows XP, and Windows Vista workstation environments. Configure and evaluate a variety of information utilities and application programs.

Create IT infrastructures and protections policies that support customer's company growth.

Service and manage MS Outlook with back-end MS Exchange Server, Microsoft Office applications, phone communications, and high-speed Internet access.

Design and implement migrations to Windows 7, XP and Vista, Windows 2008 or 2003 Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft Exchange 2007 and 2003 Server.

Optimize system availability and performance through fault-tolerant configuration, smart network infrastructure, and automated server monitoring.

Produce accurate records of the environment as it expands.

Specify and order new processor and networking equipment and/or software to support growth and additional functions.


Experience/
Education

Minimum Professional Background
Microsoft Certified System Engineer, strong troubleshooting and problem isolation ability and people skills, and the ability to come up with quick workarounds to network problems.

Understand how to to resolve software problems such as workstation program configuration issues, server problems, data service difficulties, and connectivity issues.

Willingness to exchange knowledge with customers and colleagues and to escalate issues to additional engineers when appropriate.

Must be able to to work effectively in a virtual office environment, delivering consistent follow-through and utilizing online access and wireless technology. Experience with remote network monitoring utilities and remote analysis techniques.

Physical Requirements
Ability to respond to off-hour technical crises when on emergency call.

Ability to lift, move, and reposition all parts of client desktops, network hardware, printers and accessories.
