Main Functions

Assist a range of small firms to maintain IT systems powered by Microsoft Windows 7, Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Server 2008 and 2003, Microsoft Exchange 2007 Server and 2003 Server, and .NET platform. Work closely with client's IT staff or provide comprehensive IT outsourced services. Key fields of mastery include Exchange-based email, Active Directory, Protection, server monitoring, and network infrastructure.

Interacts Extensively with:
President of Progent, Progent MCSEs and services sales managers, plus CIO and senior executives of small firm customers in Northern California, and select areas across the U.S.


Maintain and repair MS Windows 2008 Server and Windows 2003 Server-based IT networks. Operate on-site and remotely to analyze and resolve both emergency and chronic problems related to uptime, protection, performance, accessibility, and general capability.

Deploy, configure and integrate Windows-powered application hosts and Microsoft .NET servers. Configure and deploy MS Windows 7, Windows XP, and MS Windows Vista desktop computers. Configure and analyze a variety of IT utilities and application programs.

Plan network infrastructures and protections strategies that support client's company goals.

Service and manage Microsoft Outlook client with backoffice MS Exchange Server, Microsoft Office suite, telephony, and broadband Internet access.

Plan and implement upgrades to MS Windows 7, XP and Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003, Active Directory, and Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and 2003.

Maximize system reliability and throughput via fault-tolerant topology, smart network infrastructure, and proactive network monitoring.

Create accurate documentation of the environment as it grows.

Identify and procure new server and networking equipment and/or software to support growth and additional functions.


Minimum Work Background
Microsoft Certified System Engineer, proven troubleshooting and problem isolation ability and communications skills, and the experience to come up with quick workarounds to network issues.

Understand how to to troubleshoot application issues including desktop program compatibility issues, server trouble, data service issues, and network access issues.

Open to exchange information with clients and colleagues and to escalate issues to additional engineers when appropriate.

Must be able to to work effectively in a virtual office infrastructure, delivering consistent follow-through and utilizing remote connectivity and mobile communications. Experience with remote network monitoring utilities and remote troubleshooting methodologies.

Physical Capability
Availability to react to off-hour technical emergencies while on emergency station.

Capability to pick up, move, and reposition all parts of user workstations, network hardware, and accessories.
