Essential Activities

Work with a range of small and midsize businesses to maintain IT systems powered by Windows 7, Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows XP, MS Windows 2008 or 2003 Server, Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and 2003, and Microsoft's .NET technology. Work closely with client's network support staff or deliver full-service IS outsourcing. Required fields of expertise include Exchange-based email, Active Directory, security, network monitoring, and network infrastructure.

CEO of Progent, Progent MCSEs and services sales staff, as well as CIO and top executives of small and midsize company clients in Northern California, and select cities throughout the U.S.


Responsibilities

Support and repair Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003-based IT systems. Operate on-site and remotely to diagnose and resolve both emergency and chronic issues concerning uptime, security, capacity, accessibility, and overall capability.

Install, configure and validate Windows-powered program servers and .NET servers. Configure and integrate Microsoft Windows 7, Microsoft Windows XP, and MS Windows Vista desktop environments. Configure and evaluate a variety of information utilities and applications.

Plan information technology architectures and security strategies that support client's company goals.

Support and administer MS Outlook client with back-end Exchange Server, MS Office suite, phone communications, and fast Internet connection.

Plan and implement migrations to Microsoft Windows 7, XP and Vista, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003, Active Directory, and Exchange Server 2007 and 2003.

Optimize network availability and capacity via zero-downtime configuration, efficient network architecture, and automated server monitoring.

Produce accurate documentation of the network as it evolves.

Specify and procure additional processor and communications hardware and/or programs to accommodate growth and new functions.


Qualifications/
Education

Required Professional Background
MCSE, strong troubleshooting and diagnostic ability and communications skills, and the ability to come up with temporary patches to network issues.

Ability to troubleshoot software issues such as desktop application integration issues, host system issues, data service problems, and connectivity issues.

Open to exchange knowledge with clients and colleagues and to escalate issues to additional engineers when necessary.

Ability to operate effectively in a virtual office infrastructure, providing consistent follow-through and using online access and wireless communications. Familiarity with automated network monitoring software and remote troubleshooting techniques.

Physical Requirements
Willingness to respond to off-hour technical emergencies when on extended station.

Capability to pick up, carry, and reposition all parts of user desktops, network hardware, and peripherals.
