Progent is looking for Desktop Support Consultants to assist our clients with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting position that will be performed at our customer sites in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and laptop computers powered by the latest Microsoft technologies. In addition, work extensively with customer's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of our senior consultant to support the client's end users.

  • Microsoft Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft software products, workstation, laptop and peripheral setup, offsite access for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, such as user maintenance

Essential Activities

Main Responsibilities
  • Support, diagnose and troubleshoot issues with all versions of Microsoft Windows-powered PC and notebook computer systems and others as required.
  • Work directly with computer end users in assisting to find and fix app and OS issues that hinder user productivity
  • Install, configure and verify a range of software programs on user workstations
  • Work on-site to find and resolve both emergency and chronic issues that impact the stability, protection, speed, connectivity, and general capability of desktops, laptops, imaging devices and other hardware
  • Deploy new end-user equipment and help with other installations, upgrades, and swaps of PCs, notebooks and associated hardware
  • Provide the prompt diagnosis and repair of PCs and notebooks and associated hardware
  • Stay current with an expert knowledge of workstation and notebook computing applications and utilization of connectivity technologies including the Internet

Experience/Education

Minimum Work Background Requirements
  • Three years background in workstation administration new software configuration, computer and peripheral deployment, troubleshooting and resolution)
  • Strong computer debugging and fault isolation ability, knowledge to install short-term patches to resolve network issues and escalate support services when necessary
  • In-depth experience providing software assistance to small companies for all Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Office 365 apps including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Excellent speaking and written communication ability
  • Demonstrated commitment to enabling continuous operations
  • Operate independently and display marked quality of responsibility and drive
