Progent is looking for Desktop Support Consultants to help Progent's clients with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at Progent's client locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is needed, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and notebook computers based on current Microsoft technologies. In addition, work closely with customer's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of our senior consultant to support the client's end users.

Required Expertise

Primary Areas of Expertise
  • Exchange-based Outlook email
  • Microsoft operating systems and applications, PC desktop, laptop and peripheral setup, remote connectivity for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, such as user maintenance

Primary Activities

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, diagnose and troubleshoot problems with all versions of Windows-powered desktop and notebook computers and others as necessary.
  • Work with computer end users in helping to find and resolve app and operating system problems that disrupt productivity
  • Install, configure and verify a range of software programs on user PCs
  • Work on-site to diagnose and remediate both urgent and chronic problems that affect the stability, protection, speed, connectivity, and general functionality of workstations, notebooks, printers and other end user equipment
  • Install new end-user hardware and help with other deployments, upgrades, and exchanges of desktops, notebooks and related equipment
  • Provide the prompt diagnosis and remediation of desktops and notebooks and related hardware
  • Stay current with an expert knowledge of workstation and laptop applications and utilization of WAN technologies including the Internet

Experience

Minimum Professional Background Requirements
  • Three years experience in workstation administration new program setup, computer and peripheral deployment, trouble analysis and resolution)
  • Strong computer debugging and problem isolation ability, knowledge to install short-term patches to resolve network issues and escalate support services when necessary
  • Broad background delivering software help to small companies for all Windows OS, Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 programs such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication skills
  • Proven commitment to facilitating continuous productivity
  • Operate without supervision and show marked quality of ownership and motivation
