Progent is seeking Desktop Support Experts to help Progent's customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting position that will be performed at Progent's customer locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is needed, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and laptop computers based on the latest Microsoft technologies. In addition, work closely with customer's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the customer's end users.

  • Exchange-based Outlook email
  • Microsoft software products, PC desktop, notebook and peripheral setup, offsite connectivity for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, such as user maintenance

Primary Activities

Main Responsibilities
  • Maintain, diagnose and troubleshoot problems with all releases of Microsoft Windows-powered desktop and laptop computer systems and others as required.
  • Work directly with computer end users in helping to find and resolve app and operating system issues that hinder user productivity
  • Install, configure and verify a range of software programs on user workstations
  • Operate on-site to diagnose and remediate both urgent and chronic issues that affect the reliability, security, performance, connectivity, and general functionality of workstations, notebooks, imaging devices and other end user equipment
  • Install new end-user equipment and help with other installations, updates, and swaps of PCs, laptop computers and associated hardware
  • Assure the timely analysis and remediation of desktops and notebooks and related hardware
  • Remain updated with advanced knowledge of desktop and notebook computing applications and use of WAN infrastructure including the Internet

Experience/Education

Minimum Professional Experience Requirements
  • Three years experience in workstation administration new software configuration, computer and peripheral integration, trouble analysis and correction)
  • Strong computer troubleshooting and fault isolation skill, talent to implement short-term patches to solve computer issues and escalate support when necessary
  • Broad background delivering software assistance to small companies for all Windows operating systems, Office Suite, and Office 365 applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Excellent speaking and written communication ability
  • Proven dedication to facilitating continuous productivity
  • Operate independently and display marked characteristics of responsibility and drive
