Progent is seeking Desktop Support Experts to assist Progent's customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting position that will be performed at our client sites in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is needed, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and notebook computers based on current Microsoft technologies. Also, work closely with client's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of our senior consultant to support the customer's end users.

  • Microsoft Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft operating systems and applications, PC desktop, laptop and peripheral integration, offsite connectivity for teleworkers and mobile users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, including user maintenance

Primary Activities

Main Responsibilities
  • Support, diagnose and troubleshoot problems with all versions of Microsoft Windows-based desktop and laptop systems and others as needed.
  • Work with computer end users in helping to identify and resolve application and OS issues that impact user productivity
  • Deploy, configure and test a variety of popular apps on user workstations
  • Work on-site to diagnose and resolve both urgent and chronic problems that affect the reliability, protection, performance, connectivity, and general functionality of workstations, notebooks, imaging devices and other end user equipment
  • Deploy new end-user hardware and help with other deployments, upgrades, and swaps of desktops, notebooks and related equipment
  • Assure the prompt diagnosis and remediation of PCs and laptop computers and related equipment
  • Remain up-to-date with advanced knowledge of PC and laptop applications and use of connectivity technologies including the Internet

Experience

Minimum Work Background Requirements
  • Three years experience in desktop PC administration new program configuration, computer and peripheral deployment, troubleshooting and resolution)
  • Strong computer debugging and fault isolation ability, talent to install short-term patches to solve computer issues and escalate support services when required
  • Broad background providing software assistance to small companies for all Windows operating systems, Office Suite, and Office 365 programs such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication ability
  • Demonstrated dedication to enabling continuous productivity
  • Operate independently and display distinct characteristics of ownership and motivation
