Progent is looking for Desktop Support Experts to help Progent's customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting position that will be performed at our customer sites in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and laptop computers based on current Microsoft technologies. In addition, work closely with customer's executives, management, IT staff or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the client's end users.

  • Microsoft Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft operating systems and applications, workstation, laptop and peripheral setup, remote access for teleworkers and mobile users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, including user maintenance

Essential Activities

Main Responsibilities
  • Maintain, analyze and troubleshoot problems with all versions of Microsoft Windows-powered desktop and notebook computer systems and others as necessary.
  • Work directly with computer users in helping to identify and fix application and OS issues that disrupt user productivity
  • Deploy, integrate and test a variety of software programs on user PCs
  • Work on-site to find and remediate both emergency and persistent issues that affect the stability, protection, speed, connectivity, and general capability of desktops, notebooks, imaging devices and other hardware
  • Install new end-user hardware and help with other deployments, updates, and exchanges of workstations, notebooks and associated hardware
  • Provide the prompt diagnosis and repair of workstations and laptop computers and related equipment
  • Stay updated with an expert knowledge of workstation and notebook applications and utilization of WAN infrastructure including the Internet

Experience

Minimum Work Background Requirements
  • Three years experience in desktop PC administration new software setup, computer and peripheral deployment, troubleshooting and resolution)
  • Strong computer debugging and fault isolation ability, talent to install short-term patches to resolve computer problems and escalate support services when necessary
  • In-depth background delivering software help to small organizations for all Microsoft Windows OS, Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 programs including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication skills
  • Proven commitment to facilitating uninterrupted operations
  • Work independently and display marked characteristics of ownership and drive
