Progent is seeking Desktop Support Consultants to help Progent's customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting position that will be performed at Progent's client premises in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is needed, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and notebook computers based on the latest Microsoft technologies. Also, work closely with customer's executives, management, IT staff or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the customer's end users.

Primary Areas of Expertise
  • Exchange-based Outlook email
  • Microsoft operating systems and applications, workstation, notebook and peripheral setup, remote access for teleworkers and mobile users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, including user maintenance

Essential Activities

  • Maintain, analyze and resolve issues with all versions of Windows-powered PC and notebook systems and others as needed.
  • Work directly with computer users in assisting to identify and resolve application and OS issues that disrupt productivity
  • Deploy, configure and verify a range of software programs on user workstations
  • Work on-site to find and fix both urgent and persistent problems that affect the stability, protection, performance, connectivity, and general functionality of workstations, laptops, printers and other end user equipment
  • Install new end-user hardware and help with other deployments, updates, and exchanges of PCs, laptop computers and associated equipment
  • Provide the prompt diagnosis and repair of workstations and notebooks and related equipment
  • Stay current with an expert knowledge of workstation and laptop applications and use of WAN technologies including the Internet


Minimum Professional Background Requirements
  • Three years experience in desktop PC administration new program configuration, computer and peripheral deployment, trouble analysis and resolution)
  • Strong computer debugging and problem isolation ability, talent to install short-term patches to solve computer problems and escalate support services when necessary
  • Broad background delivering software assistance to small companies for all Microsoft Windows OS, Office Suite, and Office 365 applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication ability
  • Proven commitment to facilitating uninterrupted productivity
  • Work without supervision and show distinct quality of ownership and motivation
