Progent is looking for Desktop Support Consultants to help Progent's customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting position that will be performed at Progent's client sites in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support clients of all desktop and laptop computers based on current Microsoft technologies. In addition, work closely with client's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the customer's end users.

  • Exchange-based Outlook email
  • Microsoft software products, PC desktop, notebook and peripheral setup, remote access for teleworkers and mobile users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, including user maintenance

Essential Activities

Main Responsibilities
  • Maintain, diagnose and troubleshoot issues with all versions of Windows-powered workstation and notebook computers and others as required.
  • Work directly with computer users in helping to find and fix app and OS problems that hinder user productivity
  • Deploy, configure and verify a range of software programs on user workstations
  • Operate on-site to diagnose and fix both urgent and persistent problems that affect the reliability, protection, speed, accessibility, and general functionality of desktops, notebooks, imaging devices and other end user equipment
  • Deploy new end-user equipment and perform other deployments, upgrades, and swaps of desktops, notebooks and related equipment
  • Provide the timely diagnosis and remediation of PCs and laptop computers and associated hardware
  • Stay updated with advanced knowledge of workstation and notebook computing applications and utilization of WAN infrastructure including the Internet

Experience/Education

Minimum Professional Background Requirements
  • Three years background in workstation administration new software setup, computer and peripheral integration, troubleshooting and mitigation)
  • Strong computer troubleshooting and problem isolation skill, talent to install short-term patches to resolve computer issues and escalate support services when required
  • Broad background providing software help to small organizations for all Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 apps such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication ability
  • Proven dedication to facilitating uninterrupted operations
  • Work independently and show marked quality of responsibility and drive
