Progent is seeking Desktop Support Consultants to help our clients with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting position that will be performed at our customer locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is needed, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and notebook computers powered by the latest Microsoft technologies. In addition, work extensively with client's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the client's end users.

  • Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft software products, PC desktop, notebook and peripheral setup, remote connectivity for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, including user maintenance

Primary Activities

Main Responsibilities
  • Support, analyze and resolve issues with all releases of Windows-powered desktop and laptop computers and others as required.
  • Work with computer end users in assisting to find and fix app and operating system problems that disrupt user productivity
  • Deploy, integrate and verify a range of applications on user workstations
  • Operate on-site to diagnose and remediate both emergency and chronic problems that impact the reliability, security, performance, connectivity, and general functionality of workstations, notebooks, imaging devices and other hardware
  • Install new end-user hardware and help with other deployments, upgrades, and swaps of workstations, laptop computers and associated hardware
  • Assure the timely analysis and repair of desktops and laptop computers and associated equipment
  • Remain updated with an expert knowledge of PC and laptop applications and utilization of connectivity infrastructure including the Internet

Experience

Minimum Professional Background Requirements
  • Three years experience in workstation admin new software setup, computer and peripheral deployment, trouble analysis and mitigation)
  • Strong computer debugging and fault isolation skill, talent to install temporary patches to resolve network issues and escalate support when required
  • Broad background delivering software assistance to small organizations for all Microsoft Windows OS, Office Suite, and Office 365 programs including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication ability
  • Demonstrated dedication to enabling uninterrupted productivity
  • Operate independently and display distinct quality of responsibility and motivation
