Progent is looking for Desktop Support Consultants to help Progent's clients with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting position that will be performed at our customer locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support clients of all desktop and laptop computers powered by the latest Microsoft technologies. In addition, work extensively with customer's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the customer's end users.

  • Microsoft operating systems and applications, PC desktop, notebook and peripheral integration, remote access for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, such as user maintenance

Primary Activities

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, diagnose and troubleshoot problems with all releases of Windows-powered workstation and notebook computer systems and others as necessary.
  • Work directly with computer users in helping to find and fix application and operating system problems that hinder user productivity
  • Deploy, configure and verify a range of software programs on user PCs
  • Work on-site to find and resolve both emergency and persistent problems that affect the stability, security, performance, accessibility, and general capability of desktops, laptops, imaging devices and other end user equipment
  • Install new end-user hardware and help with other installations, upgrades, and exchanges of workstations, notebooks and associated hardware
  • Provide the timely diagnosis and repair of PCs and notebooks and related hardware
  • Stay up-to-date with advanced knowledge of desktop and notebook applications and utilization of connectivity technologies including the Internet

Experience

Minimum Work Experience Requirements
  • Three years background in desktop PC admin new program configuration, computer and peripheral integration, trouble analysis and resolution)
  • Strong computer debugging and fault isolation ability, talent to install short-term patches to resolve computer issues and escalate support when required
  • Broad background providing software assistance to small organizations for all Microsoft Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite, and Office 365 apps such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to facilitating continuous operations
  • Work independently and display marked characteristics of responsibility and motivation
