Progent is looking for Desktop Support Consultants to help Progent's clients with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting position that will be performed at Progent's client locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support clients of all desktop and laptop computers powered by current Microsoft technologies. Also, work closely with client's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of our senior consultant to support the customer's end users.

  • Microsoft Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft operating systems and applications, PC desktop, notebook and peripheral setup, offsite connectivity for teleworkers and mobile users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, including user maintenance

Primary Activities

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, analyze and resolve issues with all releases of Windows-powered desktop and notebook systems and others as needed.
  • Work with computer end users in assisting to find and fix application and OS issues that impact user productivity
  • Install, configure and verify a range of software programs on user PCs
  • Work on-site to diagnose and resolve both emergency and chronic problems that impact the reliability, protection, performance, connectivity, and overall functionality of workstations, laptops, printers and other hardware
  • Install new end-user equipment and help with other installations, updates, and swaps of desktops, laptop computers and related equipment
  • Provide the timely analysis and repair of PCs and notebooks and related equipment
  • Remain updated with advanced knowledge of PC and laptop computing applications and use of WAN technologies including the Internet

Experience

Minimum Professional Background Requirements
  • Three years background in workstation admin new program setup, computer and peripheral integration, troubleshooting and resolution)
  • Strong computer troubleshooting and problem isolation ability, talent to install short-term patches to resolve computer issues and escalate support when required
  • In-depth background delivering software help to small companies for all Microsoft Windows operating systems, Office Suite, and Office 365 apps including Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to enabling uninterrupted operations
  • Work without supervision and show marked characteristics of ownership and drive
