Progent is looking for Desktop Support Consultants to help Progent's customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at our client premises in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is needed, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and notebook computers based on the latest Microsoft technologies. In addition, work extensively with customer's executives, management, IT staff or under the direction or guidance of our senior consultant to support the client's end users.

  • Microsoft Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft software products, workstation, notebook and peripheral setup, remote access for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, including user maintenance

Essential Activities

Main Responsibilities
  • Maintain, analyze and resolve issues with all releases of Microsoft Windows-powered workstation and laptop computers and others as required.
  • Work with computer end users in assisting to identify and resolve app and operating system problems that hinder user productivity
  • Deploy, configure and test a variety of popular apps on user PCs
  • Operate on-site to diagnose and resolve both emergency and persistent problems that impact the stability, protection, performance, connectivity, and overall functionality of desktops, laptops, printers and other end user equipment
  • Install new end-user equipment and help with other installations, updates, and swaps of workstations, notebooks and related equipment
  • Provide the timely diagnosis and remediation of PCs and notebooks and related equipment
  • Stay updated with an expert knowledge of workstation and laptop applications and utilization of WAN technologies including the Internet

Experience/Education

Minimum Work Background Requirements
  • Three years experience in desktop PC admin new program configuration, computer and peripheral integration, trouble analysis and correction)
  • Strong computer debugging and fault isolation ability, talent to implement temporary patches to resolve network problems and escalate support services when necessary
  • Broad background delivering software help to small companies for all Windows operating systems, Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 applications including Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Excellent speaking and written communication skills
  • Proven commitment to facilitating continuous productivity
  • Work independently and show distinct quality of ownership and drive
