Progent is looking for Desktop Support Consultants to assist Progent's customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at our client locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is needed, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support clients of all desktop and notebook computers powered by the latest Microsoft technologies. Also, work closely with client's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the customer's end users.

  • Microsoft Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft software products, PC desktop, notebook and peripheral setup, offsite access for teleworkers and mobile users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, such as user maintenance

Primary Activities

Main Responsibilities
  • Maintain, diagnose and troubleshoot problems with all releases of Microsoft Windows-based desktop and notebook systems and others as needed.
  • Work directly with computer end users in assisting to find and resolve application and operating system problems that hinder productivity
  • Deploy, integrate and verify a variety of popular apps on user workstations
  • Operate on-site to diagnose and remediate both emergency and chronic issues that reduce the reliability, protection, performance, connectivity, and general functionality of workstations, notebooks, printers and other end user equipment
  • Deploy new end-user hardware and help with other installations, updates, and swaps of desktops, notebooks and associated hardware
  • Provide the timely analysis and remediation of PCs and notebooks and related hardware
  • Remain up-to-date with advanced knowledge of PC and notebook applications and use of connectivity infrastructure including the Internet

Experience

Minimum Work Background Requirements
  • Three years background in workstation administration new software configuration, computer and peripheral integration, troubleshooting and correction)
  • Strong computer debugging and fault isolation skill, talent to implement temporary patches to solve computer issues and escalate support services when required
  • Broad background providing software help to small companies for all Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 programs such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication skills
  • Proven dedication to facilitating continuous productivity
  • Operate independently and show marked quality of ownership and drive
