Progent is looking for Desktop Support Consultants to assist our customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting position that will be performed at our customer premises in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is needed, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and laptop computers based on current Microsoft technologies. In addition, work extensively with client's executives, management, IT staff or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the customer's end users.

Primary Areas of Expertise
  • Exchange-based Outlook email
  • Microsoft operating systems and applications, workstation, laptop and peripheral setup, remote access for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, including user maintenance

Essential Activities

  • Support, analyze and troubleshoot issues with all versions of Microsoft Windows-based desktop and laptop computer systems and others as necessary.
  • Work with computer end users in helping to find and resolve application and OS problems that hinder productivity
  • Install, integrate and verify a variety of applications on user PCs
  • Work on-site to diagnose and remediate both urgent and persistent issues that affect the reliability, protection, performance, connectivity, and general capability of workstations, laptops, imaging devices and other end user equipment
  • Deploy new end-user equipment and help with other deployments, updates, and exchanges of PCs, laptop computers and associated equipment
  • Assure the prompt analysis and repair of workstations and notebooks and associated equipment
  • Stay current with advanced knowledge of PC and notebook applications and utilization of connectivity technologies including the Internet


Minimum Work Background Requirements
  • Three years experience in desktop PC admin new software setup, computer and peripheral deployment, trouble analysis and resolution)
  • Strong computer troubleshooting and problem isolation ability, knowledge to implement short-term patches to solve network issues and escalate support when necessary
  • Broad experience delivering software assistance to small organizations for all Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite, and Office 365 applications including Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication skills
  • Proven commitment to enabling uninterrupted operations
  • Work without supervision and display marked quality of responsibility and drive
