Progent is looking for Desktop Support Experts to help Progent's customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at our client sites in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is needed, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support clients of all desktop and laptop computers based on current Microsoft technologies. In addition, work extensively with client's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of our senior consultant to support the customer's end users.

Required Expertise

Primary Areas of Expertise
  • Exchange-based Outlook email
  • Microsoft software products, PC desktop, notebook and peripheral setup, remote connectivity for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, including user maintenance

Primary Activities

  • Support, analyze and troubleshoot problems with all versions of Windows-based desktop and laptop systems and others as necessary.
  • Work directly with computer end users in helping to find and resolve app and OS issues that hinder productivity
  • Install, integrate and test a variety of applications on user PCs
  • Operate on-site to find and resolve both urgent and persistent problems that impact the reliability, security, performance, accessibility, and general functionality of workstations, laptops, printers and other hardware
  • Install new end-user equipment and help with other deployments, updates, and exchanges of workstations, notebooks and related hardware
  • Assure the timely diagnosis and remediation of desktops and notebooks and related hardware
  • Remain updated with an expert knowledge of workstation and notebook computing applications and use of WAN infrastructure including the Internet


Minimum Professional Experience Requirements
  • Three years experience in workstation administration new program configuration, computer and peripheral integration, trouble analysis and resolution)
  • Strong computer troubleshooting and problem isolation skill, talent to install temporary patches to solve network issues and escalate support when required
  • In-depth background providing software help to small companies for all Windows OS, Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Excellent speaking and written communication ability
  • Demonstrated dedication to enabling continuous operations
  • Work without supervision and show distinct quality of responsibility and drive
