Progent is seeking Desktop Support Consultants to help our customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting position that will be performed at Progent's client premises in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is needed, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support clients of all desktop and laptop computers powered by the latest Microsoft technologies. Also, work closely with client's executives, management, IT staff or under the direction or guidance of our senior consultant to support the client's end users.

Required Areas of Expertise
  • Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft operating systems and applications, workstation, notebook and peripheral setup, remote access for teleworkers and mobile users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, including user maintenance

Essential Activities

  • Support, analyze and resolve issues with all releases of Windows-based desktop and notebook computer systems and others as required.
  • Work directly with computer end users in assisting to identify and resolve app and OS problems that impact user productivity
  • Install, configure and verify a range of applications on user PCs
  • Operate on-site to diagnose and fix both emergency and chronic problems that affect the stability, protection, performance, connectivity, and general functionality of desktops, notebooks, imaging devices and other hardware
  • Deploy new end-user equipment and perform other installations, upgrades, and swaps of PCs, notebooks and associated hardware
  • Provide the prompt diagnosis and repair of PCs and notebooks and associated equipment
  • Stay updated with an expert knowledge of PC and notebook computing applications and utilization of connectivity infrastructure including the Internet


Minimum Work Experience Requirements
  • Three years experience in workstation admin new program setup, computer and peripheral integration, trouble analysis and correction)
  • Strong computer debugging and problem isolation skill, knowledge to implement temporary patches to resolve network problems and escalate support services when required
  • Broad background providing software assistance to small organizations for all Microsoft Windows operating systems, Office Suite, and Office 365 programs such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to facilitating uninterrupted operations
  • Work without supervision and display distinct quality of ownership and drive
