Primary Activities

Work with a variety of our clients to support employees running all workstation and laptop PCs powered by Microsoft Windows 7, Windows XP and Microsoft Vista platforms. Work extensively with customer's management, IT staff or under the direction of a Progent Senior Engineer to help the customer's end users. Key fields of expertise include Exchange-based Outlook e-mail clients, Microsoft software products, PC, laptop and printer integration, offsite connectivity for users, setup and validate VPN settings, and fundamental Network management, such as user support. The Desktop Support Specialist will provide both offsite and onsite support in these areas.

Responsibilities

Support and troubleshoot Windows 7, Microsoft Windows XP and Vista-based desktop and laptop computers.

Interact directly with end users in assisting to identify and rectify application and system issues that hinder user efficiency.

Load, configure and verify a variety of popular programs on user computers. Deploy, refresh and update the OS on desktop machines, including standardized role-out’s utilizing automated tools such as Ghost.

Operate on-site and remotely to diagnose and resolve both urgent and lingering issues that impact reliability, protection, responsiveness, accessibility, and general functionality of desktops, notebooks, printers, and other end user peripherals.

Based on client or Progent Sr. System Engineer's design and intention for end user environments, perform implementation of devices and programs to promote and align with customer's company strategy.

Support Microsoft Outlook client with host Microsoft Exchange server, Office suite, telephony, and fast Internet connection.

Assist with desktop software migrations.

Implement installations of new end-user hardware as well as other deployments, updates, and exchanges of workstations, laptop computers, and associated equipment.

Assure the responsive diagnosis and fixing of workstations, notebook PCs, and associated equipment.

Maintain an expert knowledge of workstation and laptop PC applications and use of network resources including the Internet.

Act as an information technology resource for customer workers and consultants and taking part in group tasks as required.

Produce on-going records of the environment as it expands.


Experience/
Schooling

Minimum Work Background
Three years background in desktop admin updated program installation, computer and peripheral deployment, trouble analysis and correction).

Strong computer analysis and problem isolation skills, talent to come up with temporary workarounds to technical problems and escalate problems when necessary.

In-depth background delivery program support to small-companies for all Microsoft Windows operating systems and Office family applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

Expertise in a variety of client networks, with an assortment of end user computers and peripherals.

Familiarity with remote monitoring utilities and remote troubleshooting methodologies.

Proven ability to work effectively in a virtual office situation, delivering reliable follow-through and using off-site access and mobile communications products.

Excellent verbal and written communication ability.

Accustomed to operating in a team environment, as well as the ability to perform on your own.

Proven commitment to ensuring continuous operations.

Operate independently and demonstrates strong sense of responsibility and motivation.

Schooling
High school graduate or extensive work background.

College or professional society level technology related course study.

Progress towards earning a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer certificate for Windows 2003.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry, and move all components of user computers, network appliances, and etc..

Willingness to work a flexible schedule such as responding to off-hour technical emergencies and travel, when necessary, to client sites.
