Progent is seeking Desktop Support Experts to assist our clients with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at Progent's customer sites in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is needed, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support clients of all desktop and notebook computers based on the latest Microsoft technologies. Also, work extensively with client's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the client's end users.

  • Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft operating systems and applications, workstation, notebook and peripheral integration, offsite connectivity for teleworkers and mobile users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, such as user maintenance

Essential Activities

Responsibilities
  • Support, analyze and troubleshoot problems with all versions of Windows-based desktop and notebook systems and others as needed.
  • Work directly with computer end users in helping to identify and fix app and OS problems that hinder productivity
  • Install, integrate and verify a range of software programs on user workstations
  • Work on-premises to find and resolve both urgent and persistent problems that reduce the reliability, security, speed, accessibility, and overall capability of desktops, notebooks, imaging devices and other end user equipment
  • Install new end-user equipment and help with other deployments, updates, and exchanges of PCs, notebooks and associated equipment
  • Assure the timely analysis and repair of PCs and laptop computers and related equipment
  • Stay current with advanced knowledge of workstation and laptop applications and use of connectivity technologies including the Internet

Experience/Education

Minimum Professional Background Requirements
  • Three years experience in workstation admin new program setup, computer and peripheral deployment, troubleshooting and mitigation)
  • Strong computer troubleshooting and fault isolation skill, talent to implement temporary patches to solve network problems and escalate support when necessary
  • In-depth experience providing software help to small companies for all Microsoft Windows operating systems, Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 apps such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication ability
  • Proven dedication to enabling uninterrupted productivity
  • Work independently and show distinct quality of responsibility and motivation
