Primary Functions |

Work with a range of Progent customers to support employees running all desktop and notebook computer powered by Windows 2000, Windows XP and Microsoft Vista platforms. Operate closely with client's management, IT staff or under the guidance of a Progent Staff Engineer to support the client's PC users. Key fields of skill include Exchange-based Outlook e-mail clients, Microsoft applications, workstation, laptop and peripheral integration, remote access for clients, setup and validate Virtual Private Network settings, and fundamental Network management, such as user maintenance. The Desktop Support Specialist will provide both remote and onsite support in these areas.

Responsibilities |

Maintain and troubleshoot Windows 2000, Windows XP and Vista-based workstation and laptop computer systems.
Interact directly with computer users in helping isolate and resolve application and system problems that hinder user efficiency.
Install, set up and test a range of software applications on user computers. Deploy, refresh and upgrade the OS on PCs, including standardized role-out’s utilizing deployment tools such as Ghost.
Work on-site and off-site to analyze and correct both emergency and chronic issues that impact availability, protection, responsiveness, connectivity, and general functionality of workstations, laptops, printers, and other end user equipment.
Guided by client or Progent Sr. System Engineer's architecture and plan for user environments, perform installation of hardware and programs to promote and complement with client's business strategy.
Maintain Microsoft Outlook client with back-end Exchange server, Office suite, phone communications, and broadband web connection.
Assist with desktop software migrations.
Perform deployment of new end-user computers and peripherals plus additional deployments, upgrades, and swaps of workstations, laptop computers, and associated equipment.
Perform the responsive troubleshooting and fixing of workstations, laptop computers, and related hardware.
Keep an expert knowledge of desktop and laptop computing applications and use of connectivity infrastructure including the Internet.
Act as an information technology resource for customer workers and consultants and taking part in projects as necessary.
Create up-to-date records of the network as it grows.

Required Professional Experience
Three years background in workstation administration updated software configuration, computer and peripheral integration, problem analysis and correction).
Proven technical analysis and problem isolation ability, skill to implement quick patches to network trouble and escalate problems when necessary.
In-depth experience delivery program assistance to small-companies on all Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
Expertise in a range of client networks, with a mix of end user devices.
Skill using remote monitoring utilities and remote troubleshooting methodologies.
Demonstrated skill to work productively in a virtual office environment, delivering reliable support and using remote connectivity and mobile communications technology.
Excellent verbal and writing communication skills.
Accustomed to working in a team culture, in addition to the willingness to perform on your own.
Demonstrated commitment to enabling continuous operations.
Work independently and shows marked quality of responsibility and motivation.
Education/Certification
High school graduate or equivalent experience.
College or professional group level computer related class study.
Progress towards achieving a MCSE qualification for Windows 2003.
Physical Requirements
Ability to pick up, carry, and reposition all parts of user computers, the network, and peripherals.
Ability to have a flexible schedule including responding to off-hour technical emergencies and travel, when required, to client sites.
