Progent is seeking Desktop Support Consultants to assist our customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting position that will be performed at our client locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and notebook computers based on the latest Microsoft technologies. In addition, work closely with customer's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of our senior consultant to support the client's end users.

  • Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft operating systems and applications, PC desktop, notebook and peripheral setup, remote access for teleworkers and mobile users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, including user maintenance

Essential Activities

Responsibilities
  • Support, analyze and resolve issues with all releases of Windows-powered workstation and notebook computer systems and others as required.
  • Work with computer users in assisting to identify and fix app and OS problems that impact user productivity
  • Deploy, configure and test a variety of software programs on user PCs
  • Work on-site to diagnose and resolve both urgent and persistent problems that reduce the stability, security, performance, connectivity, and overall capability of workstations, laptops, printers and other hardware
  • Install new end-user hardware and help with other installations, upgrades, and swaps of workstations, laptop computers and related equipment
  • Provide the timely analysis and remediation of PCs and laptop computers and related hardware
  • Remain updated with an expert knowledge of desktop and notebook applications and use of WAN technologies including the Internet

Experience/Education

Minimum Professional Experience Requirements
  • Three years background in workstation administration new program configuration, computer and peripheral deployment, troubleshooting and correction)
  • Strong computer debugging and problem isolation ability, knowledge to implement short-term patches to resolve network problems and escalate support services when required
  • In-depth experience delivering software help to small organizations for all Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 apps such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication skills
  • Proven dedication to enabling uninterrupted productivity
  • Operate without supervision and show marked quality of ownership and motivation
