Progent is seeking Desktop Support Experts to help Progent's clients with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting position that will be performed at our customer locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support clients of all desktop and notebook computers powered by current Microsoft technologies. In addition, work closely with customer's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the client's end users.

  • Microsoft Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft operating systems and applications, PC desktop, laptop and peripheral setup, remote connectivity for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, including user maintenance

Essential Activities

Responsibilities
  • Support, diagnose and troubleshoot problems with all versions of Microsoft Windows-powered workstation and notebook computer systems and others as necessary.
  • Work with computer end users in assisting to identify and fix application and OS problems that disrupt productivity
  • Install, configure and verify a range of popular apps on user PCs
  • Operate on-site to find and fix both emergency and chronic issues that reduce the reliability, protection, speed, accessibility, and general functionality of desktops, notebooks, printers and other end user equipment
  • Deploy new end-user hardware and perform other deployments, updates, and swaps of desktops, notebooks and associated hardware
  • Provide the prompt diagnosis and repair of workstations and notebooks and associated equipment
  • Remain current with an expert knowledge of PC and notebook applications and utilization of WAN infrastructure including the Internet

Experience

Minimum Professional Experience Requirements
  • Three years background in workstation administration new program setup, computer and peripheral deployment, troubleshooting and resolution)
  • Strong computer troubleshooting and problem isolation skill, knowledge to install short-term patches to solve computer issues and escalate support when required
  • In-depth experience delivering software help to small companies for all Microsoft Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite, and Office 365 programs such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Excellent speaking and written communication skills
  • Proven dedication to facilitating uninterrupted operations
  • Work without supervision and display marked characteristics of responsibility and motivation
