Progent is looking for Desktop Support Consultants to help Progent's customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting position that will be performed at our customer locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and notebook computers powered by current Microsoft technologies. In addition, work closely with customer's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the client's end users.

Required Expertise

Primary Areas of Expertise
  • Exchange-based Outlook email
  • Microsoft operating systems and applications, workstation, laptop and peripheral integration, offsite connectivity for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, such as user maintenance

Primary Activities

Responsibilities
  • Support, diagnose and troubleshoot problems with all releases of Windows-based PC and notebook systems and others as necessary.
  • Work with computer end users in helping to find and resolve app and OS problems that disrupt user productivity
  • Deploy, integrate and test a range of popular apps on user workstations
  • Operate on-premises to diagnose and resolve both emergency and chronic problems that reduce the reliability, security, performance, connectivity, and overall capability of workstations, laptops, imaging devices and other hardware
  • Install new end-user equipment and perform other deployments, upgrades, and exchanges of workstations, laptop computers and associated hardware
  • Provide the timely diagnosis and remediation of PCs and notebooks and associated hardware
  • Stay up-to-date with an expert knowledge of workstation and notebook computing applications and utilization of WAN infrastructure including the Internet

Experience/Education

Minimum Work Background Requirements
  • Three years background in desktop PC administration new program setup, computer and peripheral deployment, troubleshooting and mitigation)
  • Strong computer troubleshooting and problem isolation ability, talent to implement temporary patches to solve computer problems and escalate support when necessary
  • In-depth experience delivering software help to small organizations for all Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite, and Office 365 applications such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated dedication to enabling continuous operations
  • Work without supervision and show marked quality of responsibility and drive
