Primary Functions

Work with a range of small companies to support information systems based on Microsoft Windows 7, Windows Vista, MS Windows XP, MS Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003, MS Exchange 2007 and 2003 Server, and Microsoft's .NET platform. Work extensively with customer's network support staff or provide full-service IS outsourcing. Key fields of expertise include Exchange and Outlook, Active Directory, security, network monitoring, and network infrastructure.

Cooperates Extensively with:
CEO of Progent, Progent MCSEs and technical sales managers, plus CIO and top management of small and midsize business clients in the San Francisco Bay Area, and key cities across the U.S.


Maintain and troubleshoot Windows 2008 or 2003 Server-based computer systems. Work in person and offsite to analyze and fix both emergency and chronic issues related to availability, protection, throughput, accessibility, and overall functionality.

Install, setup and validate MS Windows-based application servers and MS .NET servers. Set up and integrate MS Windows 7, MS Windows XP, and Microsoft Windows Vista workstation environments. Configure and evaluate a variety of information services and application programs.

Design network infrastructures and security strategies that promote customer's business goals.

Support and manage MS Outlook client with backoffice Exchange Server, Microsoft Office suite, telephony, and high-speed Internet access.

Design and implement upgrades to Microsoft Windows 7, XP and Vista, Microsoft Windows 2008 or 2003 Server, Active Directory, and Exchange 2007 and 2003 Server.

Optimize system availability and throughput through zero-downtime configuration, smart system infrastructure, and proactive network monitoring.

Create up-to-date records of the environment as it evolves.

Specify and procure additional processor and communications hardware and/or programs to accommodate expansion and additional applications.


Required Work Background
MCSE, strong troubleshooting and problem isolation skills and people skills, and the ability to come up with temporary patches to network problems.

Ability to troubleshoot software issues including workstation program compatibility issues, server issues, data service difficulties, and connectivity problems.

Open to exchange knowledge with customers and coworkers and to escalate problems to Progent specialists when appropriate.

Ability to work effectively in a virtual office environment, delivering reliable follow-up and utilizing remote connectivity and mobile communications. Experience with remote server monitoring programs and remote troubleshooting techniques.

Physical Capability
Availability to respond to off-hour network emergencies while on emergency station.

Capability to lift, carry, and rearrange all parts of user workstations, network appliances, printers and accessories.
