Progent is seeking Desktop Support Consultants to assist our clients with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at Progent's customer premises in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and laptop computers based on the latest Microsoft technologies. In addition, work closely with customer's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of our senior consultant to support the client's end users.

  • Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft software products, PC desktop, laptop and peripheral setup, offsite connectivity for teleworkers and mobile users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, such as user maintenance

Essential Activities

Main Responsibilities
  • Support, analyze and resolve issues with all versions of Windows-powered desktop and notebook computers and others as needed.
  • Work with computer end users in helping to identify and fix app and operating system problems that disrupt user productivity
  • Deploy, configure and verify a variety of applications on user PCs
  • Operate on-site to find and remediate both urgent and chronic issues that affect the stability, protection, speed, accessibility, and general functionality of desktops, notebooks, imaging devices and other hardware
  • Install new end-user equipment and perform other deployments, updates, and exchanges of workstations, laptop computers and associated equipment
  • Assure the timely diagnosis and repair of workstations and laptop computers and associated hardware
  • Stay current with advanced knowledge of desktop and notebook computing applications and use of connectivity infrastructure including the Internet

Experience/Education

Minimum Work Experience Requirements
  • Three years experience in workstation administration new program setup, computer and peripheral deployment, trouble analysis and mitigation)
  • Strong computer troubleshooting and fault isolation ability, talent to implement short-term patches to solve computer problems and escalate support services when necessary
  • In-depth background delivering software help to small organizations for all Microsoft Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 apps including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Excellent speaking and written communication ability
  • Proven commitment to enabling uninterrupted productivity
  • Operate independently and show distinct characteristics of ownership and drive
