Progent is looking for Desktop Support Experts to help our customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at our client locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support clients of all desktop and notebook computers based on the latest Microsoft technologies. In addition, work closely with customer's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the client's end users.

  • Microsoft operating systems and applications, PC desktop, notebook and peripheral setup, offsite connectivity for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, including user maintenance

Essential Activities

Main Responsibilities
  • Support, analyze and troubleshoot issues with all releases of Microsoft Windows-based PC and laptop systems and others as necessary.
  • Work with computer users in assisting to identify and fix application and operating system problems that impact productivity
  • Deploy, integrate and verify a variety of popular apps on user workstations
  • Operate on-premises to find and remediate both urgent and persistent issues that reduce the stability, protection, performance, accessibility, and general capability of workstations, laptops, printers and other hardware
  • Deploy new end-user equipment and help with other installations, upgrades, and swaps of PCs, notebooks and related hardware
  • Assure the prompt diagnosis and remediation of PCs and notebooks and associated hardware
  • Stay updated with an expert knowledge of desktop and laptop computing applications and utilization of connectivity infrastructure including the Internet

Experience

Minimum Professional Background Requirements
  • Three years background in workstation admin new software setup, computer and peripheral deployment, trouble analysis and correction)
  • Strong computer debugging and problem isolation ability, knowledge to install temporary patches to resolve network problems and escalate support services when necessary
  • Broad experience delivering software assistance to small organizations for all Microsoft Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 apps such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Excellent speaking and written communication ability
  • Demonstrated dedication to enabling uninterrupted productivity
  • Operate independently and show distinct quality of ownership and motivation
