Progent is looking for Desktop Support Experts to help our customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting position that will be performed at our client premises in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and notebook computers powered by current Microsoft technologies. In addition, work closely with customer's executives, management, IT staff or under the direction or guidance of our senior consultant to support the customer's end users.

Required Areas of Expertise
  • Microsoft Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft software products, PC desktop, notebook and peripheral setup, remote connectivity for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, including user maintenance

Essential Activities

  • Maintain, analyze and troubleshoot problems with all releases of Microsoft Windows-based PC and notebook systems and others as required.
  • Work with computer end users in helping to identify and fix app and OS problems that hinder productivity
  • Deploy, integrate and verify a range of popular apps on user PCs
  • Operate on-premises to find and resolve both urgent and persistent issues that impact the reliability, protection, performance, connectivity, and general functionality of desktops, notebooks, imaging devices and other end user equipment
  • Install new end-user hardware and perform other deployments, upgrades, and exchanges of PCs, notebooks and related hardware
  • Provide the timely analysis and remediation of desktops and notebooks and related equipment
  • Remain current with advanced knowledge of desktop and laptop applications and use of connectivity infrastructure including the Internet


Minimum Work Background Requirements
  • Three years background in desktop PC administration new program configuration, computer and peripheral integration, troubleshooting and resolution)
  • Strong computer debugging and fault isolation skill, knowledge to implement short-term patches to solve network issues and escalate support services when required
  • Broad background providing software assistance to small organizations for all Microsoft Windows operating systems, Office Suite, and Office 365 applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated dedication to enabling uninterrupted productivity
  • Operate without supervision and show marked characteristics of ownership and drive
