Progent is looking for Desktop Support Consultants to assist our customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at Progent's customer locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is needed, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support clients of all desktop and laptop computers powered by the latest Microsoft technologies. In addition, work extensively with customer's executives, management, IT staff or under the direction or guidance of our senior consultant to support the customer's end users.

Required Areas of Expertise
  • Exchange-based Outlook email
  • Microsoft software products, PC desktop, laptop and peripheral setup, offsite connectivity for teleworkers and mobile users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, including user maintenance

Primary Activities

  • Support, diagnose and resolve problems with all releases of Microsoft Windows-based PC and laptop systems and others as needed.
  • Work directly with computer users in helping to identify and resolve application and OS issues that hinder user productivity
  • Install, configure and verify a range of software programs on user PCs
  • Work on-site to diagnose and fix both emergency and persistent issues that impact the stability, security, speed, accessibility, and overall capability of workstations, laptops, printers and other hardware
  • Deploy new end-user hardware and perform other deployments, updates, and exchanges of desktops, laptop computers and associated equipment
  • Assure the timely analysis and remediation of workstations and notebooks and associated hardware
  • Stay updated with an expert knowledge of desktop and notebook computing applications and utilization of connectivity infrastructure including the Internet


Minimum Work Background Requirements
  • Three years experience in workstation admin new software setup, computer and peripheral deployment, troubleshooting and correction)
  • Strong computer debugging and problem isolation ability, knowledge to implement temporary patches to solve network issues and escalate support services when required
  • Broad background providing software help to small companies for all Microsoft Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Office 365 applications such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated dedication to facilitating continuous operations
  • Work without supervision and show distinct quality of responsibility and motivation
