Progent is seeking Desktop Support Consultants to help our customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting position that will be performed at Progent's customer premises in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and laptop computers powered by the latest Microsoft technologies. In addition, work extensively with customer's executives, management, IT staff or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the customer's end users.

  • Microsoft Exchange-based Outlook email
  • Microsoft software products, PC desktop, laptop and peripheral setup, offsite access for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, including user maintenance

Primary Activities

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, analyze and troubleshoot problems with all releases of Microsoft Windows-powered PC and notebook computer systems and others as needed.
  • Work directly with computer end users in helping to find and fix app and OS issues that impact productivity
  • Deploy, configure and verify a range of applications on user workstations
  • Operate on-premises to diagnose and resolve both urgent and chronic issues that impact the stability, security, performance, connectivity, and general capability of workstations, notebooks, printers and other hardware
  • Deploy new end-user equipment and help with other deployments, updates, and exchanges of desktops, laptop computers and related equipment
  • Assure the prompt diagnosis and repair of desktops and notebooks and related hardware
  • Stay up-to-date with advanced knowledge of workstation and laptop applications and utilization of connectivity technologies including the Internet

Experience/Education

Minimum Professional Background Requirements
  • Three years background in desktop PC administration new software setup, computer and peripheral deployment, troubleshooting and resolution)
  • Strong computer troubleshooting and fault isolation ability, knowledge to install temporary patches to solve computer problems and escalate support when required
  • In-depth background delivering software assistance to small companies for all Windows operating systems, Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 programs such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication ability
  • Proven dedication to facilitating uninterrupted productivity
  • Operate independently and show marked characteristics of responsibility and motivation
