Progent is looking for Desktop Support Experts to assist our customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at Progent's customer sites in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is needed, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and notebook computers powered by the latest Microsoft technologies. In addition, work extensively with customer's executives, management, IT staff or under the direction or guidance of our senior consultant to support the client's end users.

Required Expertise

Primary Areas of Expertise
  • Microsoft Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft software products, workstation, laptop and peripheral integration, remote access for teleworkers and mobile users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, including user maintenance

Primary Activities

Main Responsibilities
  • Support, analyze and resolve problems with all releases of Microsoft Windows-powered desktop and laptop systems and others as required.
  • Work directly with computer users in helping to identify and resolve app and OS problems that impact productivity
  • Deploy, integrate and test a range of popular apps on user workstations
  • Work on-site to diagnose and resolve both emergency and chronic problems that affect the reliability, security, performance, accessibility, and overall capability of desktops, notebooks, printers and other hardware
  • Install new end-user equipment and help with other installations, updates, and swaps of desktops, notebooks and related hardware
  • Assure the timely analysis and remediation of workstations and laptop computers and associated equipment
  • Remain updated with an expert knowledge of PC and laptop computing applications and utilization of connectivity infrastructure including the Internet


Minimum Professional Background Requirements
  • Three years experience in desktop PC admin new software setup, computer and peripheral integration, trouble analysis and mitigation)
  • Strong computer debugging and problem isolation ability, talent to implement short-term patches to solve computer issues and escalate support services when required
  • In-depth background delivering software help to small organizations for all Microsoft Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Office 365 programs including Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Excellent speaking and written communication ability
  • Demonstrated commitment to enabling uninterrupted productivity
  • Work independently and show distinct quality of responsibility and motivation
