Progent is looking for Desktop Support Consultants to help Progent's customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at Progent's client premises in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is needed, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and notebook computers powered by current Microsoft technologies. Also, work extensively with client's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of our senior consultant to support the client's end users.

Required Areas of Expertise
  • Exchange-based Outlook email
  • Microsoft operating systems and applications, PC desktop, laptop and peripheral integration, remote access for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, such as user maintenance

Primary Activities

  • Maintain, diagnose and resolve issues with all versions of Windows-based PC and notebook systems and others as required.
  • Work directly with computer users in helping to identify and resolve application and operating system problems that hinder user productivity
  • Install, integrate and verify a range of popular apps on user PCs
  • Operate on-premises to diagnose and remediate both emergency and chronic problems that reduce the stability, security, performance, accessibility, and overall capability of workstations, notebooks, printers and other hardware
  • Deploy new end-user equipment and perform other deployments, upgrades, and swaps of PCs, laptop computers and related equipment
  • Assure the timely analysis and remediation of desktops and laptop computers and associated hardware
  • Remain updated with an expert knowledge of PC and notebook applications and use of WAN infrastructure including the Internet


Minimum Work Background Requirements
  • Three years background in workstation admin new software setup, computer and peripheral integration, trouble analysis and correction)
  • Strong computer troubleshooting and fault isolation ability, knowledge to implement temporary patches to solve computer problems and escalate support services when required
  • In-depth experience delivering software assistance to small organizations for all Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 apps such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to enabling continuous productivity
  • Operate independently and show marked quality of ownership and motivation
