Progent is looking for Desktop Support Consultants to help Progent's clients with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at Progent's client locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and laptop computers based on current Microsoft technologies. In addition, work closely with client's executives, management, IT staff or under the direction or guidance of our senior consultant to support the client's end users.

Required Expertise

Key Areas of Expertise
  • Microsoft Exchange-based Outlook email
  • Microsoft software products, workstation, notebook and peripheral setup, offsite connectivity for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, such as user maintenance

Primary Activities

  • Support, analyze and resolve issues with all releases of Microsoft Windows-powered desktop and laptop computers and others as necessary.
  • Work directly with computer end users in assisting to identify and fix app and OS issues that impact productivity
  • Deploy, integrate and verify a range of popular apps on user PCs
  • Work on-premises to find and remediate both urgent and chronic problems that impact the stability, protection, performance, connectivity, and general capability of workstations, notebooks, printers and other hardware
  • Install new end-user hardware and perform other deployments, updates, and swaps of desktops, notebooks and associated hardware
  • Provide the prompt diagnosis and repair of desktops and laptop computers and associated equipment
  • Remain up-to-date with advanced knowledge of PC and laptop computing applications and utilization of WAN technologies including the Internet


Minimum Work Experience Requirements
  • Three years experience in workstation admin new software setup, computer and peripheral integration, troubleshooting and mitigation)
  • Strong computer troubleshooting and fault isolation skill, knowledge to implement temporary patches to solve computer problems and escalate support when required
  • In-depth experience providing software assistance to small organizations for all Windows operating systems, Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 apps such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Excellent speaking and written communication ability
  • Proven dedication to facilitating uninterrupted operations
  • Work independently and display distinct quality of ownership and motivation
