Progent is seeking Desktop Support Experts to help our clients with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at our client locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support clients of all desktop and laptop computers powered by current Microsoft technologies. In addition, work extensively with client's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of our senior consultant to support the client's end users.

  • Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft software products, workstation, notebook and peripheral setup, offsite connectivity for teleworkers and mobile users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, including user maintenance

Essential Activities

Main Responsibilities
  • Maintain, analyze and troubleshoot problems with all versions of Windows-based workstation and laptop systems and others as needed.
  • Work directly with computer end users in helping to identify and fix application and operating system issues that impact user productivity
  • Deploy, configure and test a range of popular apps on user PCs
  • Operate on-site to diagnose and remediate both urgent and persistent problems that impact the reliability, protection, speed, connectivity, and general capability of desktops, notebooks, printers and other hardware
  • Deploy new end-user hardware and help with other deployments, updates, and swaps of PCs, notebooks and associated equipment
  • Provide the prompt analysis and remediation of desktops and laptop computers and associated hardware
  • Stay current with advanced knowledge of desktop and notebook computing applications and use of connectivity technologies including the Internet

Experience/Education

Minimum Work Experience Requirements
  • Three years experience in desktop PC administration new software configuration, computer and peripheral deployment, trouble analysis and mitigation)
  • Strong computer troubleshooting and fault isolation skill, knowledge to install short-term patches to resolve network issues and escalate support when required
  • In-depth background delivering software assistance to small organizations for all Microsoft Windows OS, Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 applications such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication ability
  • Demonstrated commitment to enabling continuous operations
  • Operate independently and show marked quality of responsibility and motivation
