Progent is looking for Desktop Support Experts to help Progent's clients with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at our client locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and laptop computers powered by the latest Microsoft technologies. Also, work closely with customer's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the client's end users.

  • Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft software products, PC desktop, laptop and peripheral integration, offsite access for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, such as user maintenance

Primary Activities

Main Responsibilities
  • Support, analyze and troubleshoot issues with all releases of Microsoft Windows-based desktop and laptop computer systems and others as necessary.
  • Work with computer users in assisting to identify and fix application and OS problems that disrupt productivity
  • Install, configure and test a variety of applications on user workstations
  • Operate on-premises to find and resolve both emergency and chronic issues that impact the stability, security, speed, accessibility, and overall capability of workstations, laptops, imaging devices and other end user equipment
  • Install new end-user equipment and perform other deployments, updates, and exchanges of PCs, notebooks and related hardware
  • Assure the timely diagnosis and repair of PCs and notebooks and related hardware
  • Remain up-to-date with advanced knowledge of desktop and laptop applications and use of WAN technologies including the Internet

Experience/Education

Minimum Professional Experience Requirements
  • Three years experience in workstation administration new program configuration, computer and peripheral deployment, trouble analysis and mitigation)
  • Strong computer debugging and problem isolation ability, knowledge to install temporary patches to resolve computer issues and escalate support services when required
  • In-depth experience providing software help to small companies for all Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 applications such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication ability
  • Demonstrated commitment to enabling continuous productivity
  • Work without supervision and display distinct characteristics of responsibility and drive
