Progent is seeking Desktop Support Experts to assist Progent's clients with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at Progent's customer sites in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support clients of all desktop and laptop computers powered by the latest Microsoft technologies. Also, work extensively with client's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the customer's end users.

Primary Areas of Expertise
  • Microsoft Exchange-based Outlook email
  • Microsoft software products, workstation, laptop and peripheral integration, offsite connectivity for teleworkers and mobile users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, including user maintenance

Primary Activities

  • Maintain, diagnose and resolve problems with all releases of Microsoft Windows-based desktop and laptop systems and others as needed.
  • Work directly with computer end users in helping to identify and fix application and OS problems that impact user productivity
  • Install, integrate and verify a variety of applications on user PCs
  • Work on-premises to diagnose and resolve both emergency and persistent problems that affect the reliability, security, performance, connectivity, and overall capability of workstations, laptops, printers and other hardware
  • Deploy new end-user hardware and perform other deployments, upgrades, and swaps of workstations, notebooks and associated hardware
  • Assure the timely diagnosis and repair of workstations and laptop computers and associated hardware
  • Remain up-to-date with advanced knowledge of workstation and notebook applications and utilization of WAN infrastructure including the Internet


Minimum Work Background Requirements
  • Three years background in desktop PC administration new software setup, computer and peripheral deployment, troubleshooting and resolution)
  • Strong computer troubleshooting and problem isolation ability, knowledge to implement temporary patches to solve network problems and escalate support services when required
  • Broad background delivering software help to small companies for all Windows OS, Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 applications such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to enabling continuous operations
  • Work independently and show distinct quality of ownership and drive
