Progent is seeking Desktop Support Consultants to assist our clients with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at our customer sites in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and laptop computers based on the latest Microsoft technologies. Also, work closely with client's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the customer's end users.

Primary Areas of Expertise
  • Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft software products, PC desktop, notebook and peripheral integration, offsite access for teleworkers and mobile users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, such as user maintenance

Primary Activities

Main Responsibilities
  • Maintain, analyze and troubleshoot problems with all versions of Microsoft Windows-powered PC and laptop systems and others as required.
  • Work with computer users in helping to identify and fix app and OS issues that impact user productivity
  • Install, integrate and test a range of applications on user PCs
  • Work on-premises to find and resolve both emergency and chronic issues that affect the reliability, protection, performance, accessibility, and general capability of workstations, laptops, printers and other hardware
  • Install new end-user hardware and help with other deployments, updates, and exchanges of PCs, notebooks and related hardware
  • Assure the prompt analysis and repair of PCs and notebooks and related equipment
  • Stay current with an expert knowledge of workstation and notebook applications and utilization of connectivity infrastructure including the Internet


Minimum Professional Background Requirements
  • Three years background in workstation admin new software setup, computer and peripheral deployment, trouble analysis and resolution)
  • Strong computer troubleshooting and problem isolation skill, talent to implement short-term patches to solve network problems and escalate support when necessary
  • In-depth background providing software assistance to small companies for all Microsoft Windows operating systems, Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 programs such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • High-level speaking and written communication ability
  • Proven dedication to facilitating continuous productivity
  • Operate without supervision and show marked quality of ownership and drive
