Progent is seeking Desktop Support Experts to assist our customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at Progent's customer premises in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and notebook computers powered by current Microsoft technologies. In addition, work extensively with customer's executives, management, IT staff or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the client's end users.

Key Areas of Expertise
  • Microsoft Exchange-based Outlook email
  • Microsoft operating systems and applications, PC desktop, laptop and peripheral setup, offsite access for users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, including user maintenance

Primary Activities

  • Maintain, analyze and resolve issues with all versions of Microsoft Windows-based desktop and notebook systems and others as required.
  • Work directly with computer end users in assisting to find and fix app and OS problems that disrupt productivity
  • Install, integrate and verify a range of software programs on user PCs
  • Operate on-site to find and remediate both urgent and persistent issues that affect the reliability, security, performance, accessibility, and general capability of workstations, notebooks, imaging devices and other hardware
  • Install new end-user equipment and help with other deployments, updates, and swaps of PCs, laptop computers and associated hardware
  • Assure the prompt diagnosis and repair of desktops and laptop computers and associated hardware
  • Remain updated with an expert knowledge of desktop and notebook applications and use of connectivity technologies including the Internet


Minimum Work Background Requirements
  • Three years experience in workstation administration new software configuration, computer and peripheral integration, trouble analysis and correction)
  • Strong computer debugging and fault isolation skill, talent to implement short-term patches to solve computer issues and escalate support services when required
  • Broad background delivering software assistance to small organizations for all Microsoft Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 apps such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Excellent speaking and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to enabling continuous productivity
  • Operate independently and show marked quality of responsibility and motivation
