Progent is seeking Desktop Support Consultants to assist Progent's customers with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at our client locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is needed, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support users of all desktop and notebook computers based on current Microsoft technologies. Also, work extensively with customer's executives, management, IT group or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the customer's end users.

Expertise

Required Areas of Expertise
  • Exchange-based Outlook email client
  • Microsoft operating systems and applications, PC desktop, notebook and peripheral integration, remote access for teleworkers and mobile users
  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network management, such as user maintenance

Essential Activities

Main Responsibilities
  • Support, diagnose and troubleshoot problems with all versions of Windows-based PC and notebook computer systems and others as required.
  • Work directly with computer users in assisting to identify and fix app and operating system issues that hinder user productivity
  • Install, configure and verify a range of software programs on user workstations
  • Work on-premises to find and fix both urgent and persistent issues that affect the reliability, protection, speed, connectivity, and overall capability of workstations, laptops, printers and other end user equipment
  • Install new end-user hardware and perform other deployments, updates, and swaps of PCs, laptop computers and associated equipment
  • Provide the timely analysis and remediation of desktops and notebooks and related hardware
  • Stay current with advanced knowledge of PC and laptop applications and utilization of WAN technologies including the Internet

Experience

Minimum Professional Background Requirements
  • Three years background in workstation administration new software configuration, computer and peripheral integration, troubleshooting and resolution)
  • Strong computer debugging and fault isolation ability, knowledge to install temporary patches to solve computer problems and escalate support services when necessary
  • In-depth experience providing software assistance to small organizations for all Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Office 365 applications such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Excellent speaking and written communication skills
  • Proven commitment to enabling uninterrupted operations
  • Work without supervision and show distinct characteristics of responsibility and drive
