RIM BlackBerry has released BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express (BESX), offering FREE software and CALs while providing the basic connectivity, protection, and management functions of BlackBerry BES Server including over-the-air sync and remote availability of files and programs. And the price savings don't end at free software and Client Access Licenses (CALs). Customers now have the option to select the BIS wireless data plan instead of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server wireless data plan, saving you $10-$20 per month for each of your BlackBerry clients!
BlackBerry BES Server Express can be installed on a Microsoft Exchange or Small Business Server, recommended for as many as 75 clients, or on a stand-alone server which can support up to 2,000 users. RIM BlackBerry BES Server Express is ideal for smaller businesses who before now could not financially justify connecting employees' BlackBerry devices to the corporate network.
The Express version of RIM BlackBerry BES Server does not offer high availability, system monitoring, database mirroring, or desk phone/PBX support and reduces the number of supported IT polices from 450 to 35. In addition, BIS BlackBerry smartphone wireless data plan clients will have to execute the first wired enterprise activation to connect to the BES. After that they will have the complete BlackBerry wireless email and personal organizer data experience including scheduling, contacts, tasks, and notes. Users with the BES data carrier plan can still enterprise activate their devices over the air.
