Research in Motion has introduced BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express (BESX), offering FREE server software and Client Access Licenses (CALs) while delivering the core connectivity, protection, and management capabilities of RIM BlackBerry BES Server such as over-the-air sync and remote access to data and programs. But the price cuts don't end at free server software and Client Access Licenses (CALs). Customers also have the ability to select the BlackBerry Internet Service wireless data plan instead of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server wireless data carrier plan, saving you up to $20 a month for every one of your RIM BlackBerry clients!
BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express can be installed on a Microsoft Exchange or Small Business Server, which can handle as many as 75 clients, or on a dedicated server which can support as many as 2,000 users. RIM BlackBerry BES Server Express is a great alternative for smaller businesses who before now couldn't financially justify connecting employees' BlackBerry smartphones to the corporate network.
The Express edition of RIM BlackBerry BES Server does not offer high availability, monitoring, SQL database mirroring, or desktop phone/PBX support and limits the available IT polices from 450 to 35. In addition, BIS data plan clients will be required to perform the first wired enterprise activation to integrate with the BES. Subsequently they will have the full BlackBerry mobile email and personal organizer data experience including calendar, address books, tasks, and notes. Users with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server wireless data carrier plan can still enterprise activate their BlackBerry smartphones wirelessly.
