Backup and Replication
Altaro VM Backup offers rapid, efficient, and secure backup for data protection and archiving plus offsite replication for dependable recovery. Major backup and replication capabilities include:

• Ransomware Protection leveraging Immutable Cloud Storage: Immutable backup for cloud object storage enables tamper-proof data while under the defined policy so that backup data cannot be modified or deleted by any user including administrators or root users. This adds another level of protection and recoverability in the event of a successful ransomware attack.
• Augmented In-Line Deduplication: In-line variable block size deduplication sends only altered data to backup storage devices or sites, reducing network traffic, minimizing backup storage requirements, and enhancing throughput. • Workload Consistent Backups: Altaro can utilize Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) and all VSS Writers running within the protected virtual machine when making a backup. • Cloud Backup to Amazon S3 and Wasabi: Altaro VM Backup VM Backup allows seamless backup to Amazon S3 and Wasabi. No extra resources operating in the cloud are required to provide backup storage.
• Back up to multiple offsite datacenters: For better resilience, you can create copies of virtual machines on multiple off-premises sites including multiple clouds such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3).

• Recover as Clone: You can restore a virtual machine backup to a new destination with a new name, permitting the cloned VM to run side by side with the original virtual machine. This eliminates the necessity to overwrite live virtual machines.
• Restore to Different Host: You can restore a VM backup to a different host. The virtual machine can be restored from the on-prem backup location, or directly from the remote copy location. (You may not cross-recover between Windows Hyper-V and VMware Hypervisors.)
• Boot from Backup: You can instantly boot any VM version from the backup device either for verification purposes or to create a significant improvement in Recovery Time Objective (RTO) during a disaster recovery scenario.
• File-Level Recovery: You can rapidly recover individual files from any virtual machine backup.
• WAN-Optimized Replication: You can create ongoing backups of your VMs to a remote site and transfer instantly to the backup site in the event that a calamity disables your primary VMs. This can significantly reduce your RTO and put your organization back online fast.
• Microsoft Exchange Item-Level Recovery: You can recover specific emails and attachments from within the Exchange Mailbox database.
