Office 365 Word for Mac and Word for Mac 2016 include a new Design Tab that allows immediate access to design elements and makes it simple to control layout, colors and typography across a Word document. A new Insights Pane automatically searches for and shows relevant information from the web to deliver rich context for authors and readers. Another new feature is threaded comments, which promotes teamwork by tracking conversations and displaying them adjacent to the associated content. Enhancements include easier tools for inviting colleagues to proof and edit documents, concurrent coauthoring of documents, and more powerful Mail Merge capabilities that use Word, Excel and Outlook. As with newer editions of Office Excel and PowerPoint for Mac, Office 365 Word for Mac allows you to navigate documents with familiar Multi-Touch gestures.
Microsoft Office 365 Word for Mac simplifies layout management and teamwork
Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 features improvements in the areas of document viewing, template control, desktop publishing, image editing, typography, document search, collaboration, and automation. The new Focus View feature allows you to eliminate non-essential content to increase the screen area dedicated to viewing your document. The Word Document Gallery streamlines access to standard and customized templates as well as recent documents. Enhanced publishing capabilities include a better Publishing Layout view, the ability to reorder layers dynamically, and more comprehensive image editing tools including background removal.
Microsoft Word for Mac 2008 introduced an updated user interface that offers an extensible toolbar and incorporates a basic desktop publishing toolset through the Publishing Layout View that offers more precision over layout of words and graphics and allows users to chain text overflow from one area to a specified text box on another page. Other capabilities available in Word for Mac 2008 include support for OpenType ligatures for more professional-looking type, and reference tools that allow a variety of citation formats. Word for Mac 2008 works with AppleScript but doesn't work with VBasic for Applications. Word for Mac 2004 introduced a Notebook Layout View that enables you to flag critical sections, search for specified terms, and add time-stamped voice recordings into your notes as you type. Reference Utilities permit you to refer to a dictionary or a thesaurus right from the Office Toolbox, although there is also a link to Microsoft's now discontinued Microsoft Encarta online encyclopedia. Office 365 Excel for Mac and Excel for Mac 2016 introduce PivotTable Slicers to enable you to discover patterns within large volumes of data. A new add-on, the Analysis Toolpak, facilitates complex statistical and engineering analyses. Interchangeability with PC versions of Excel is improved through support for common keyboard shortcuts and for most of the functions included with Excel 2013 for Windows. Additional improvements include an enhanced Formula Builder Pane and the ability to print to a single PDF file.
Office 365 Excel for Mac enhances interchangeability with Windows spreadsheets
Excel for Mac 2011 includes improvements in the areas of data analysis and visualization, performance, image editing, programmability, security, and sharing. The innovative Sparklines capability provides an immediate visual representation of Excel data by means of tiny charts that are displayed within a cell next to the summarized data. Conditional Formatting has been enhanced to make it simpler to format data using icon libraries, data bars, and colors. You can now sort and filter information by color and use multiple- selection filters and new fast filtering options. Excel Tables (before called Lists) allow you to create multiple groups of associated information for easy editing and analytics.
Excel for Mac 2011 PivotTables have enhanced performance and closer compatibility with Windows editions of Office Excel. Improved editing tools and SmartArt images allow you to create polished-looking graphics without the use of outside photo-editing software. As with Word for Mac 2011, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) support has been resumed, enhancing compatibility with Excel for Windows and offering new features such as IntelliSense, watch windows, and a new VBA debugging utility. You can control access to workbooks via Information Rights Management and share secure workbooks across platforms. To improve sharing, Office Excel for Mac 2011 permits you to create platform-independent workbooks and transfer dates among workbooks without being required to differentiate between 1900 and 1904 date systems.
Excel for Mac 2008 manages the same number of cells as the Microsoft Windows edition of Excel and includes the Formula Builder for streamlining the creation of complicated calculations. Microsoft Excel for Mac 2008 also includes an Elements Gallery with templates for popular applications including company payroll. Just like the 2008 version of Microsoft Word for Mac, Excel for Mac 2008 doesn't support VBasic for Applications. PowerPoint for Mac 2011 includes new and improved capabilities in the areas of template organization and customization, picture touchup, video support, animated effects, layer and slide control, timing, sharing, protection, search, speed, and automation. PowerPoint's Media Browser allows easy access to a wide range of media libraries such as iPhoto albums, iTunes playlists, and iMovie collections as well as Clip Art and other visual data. The PowerPoint Presentation Gallery simplifies control of pre-built and custom templates as well as recently opened shows. Improved image editing features include a background removal tool plus tools for correction, color, and trimming. You can also incorporate and format movies from inside PowerPoint to make them an integral part of a show, making it easier to distribute and control sophisticated presentations. You can easily include 3-D transitions and are provided with an extensive collection of animations, extensible themes, improved chart tools, and more SmartArt graphics with new layouts for org charts and image diagrams.

Microsoft Office Outlook for Mac 2011 replaces Microsoft Entourage and has been re-architected to provide substantial enhancements in the areas of usability, scheduling, backup and restore, search, Windows compatibility, sharing, speed, voice and video conferencing, voice mail, mobility support, Instant Messaging, and rich presence. The Microsoft Outlook for Mac database for email messages, contact information, and calendars is now saved in individual text files, making them simpler to control. Microsoft Outlook for Mac is also Spotlight searchable and able to be copied and restored via Apple Time Machine. Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 now puts your email, drafts, sent mail and deleted items for each of your mailboxes in unified folders so you no longer need to check separate accounts and multiple folders.
