Office 365 Word for Mac and Word for Mac 2016 feature a new Design Tab that allows immediate access to design elements and makes it simple to manage layout, colors and fonts throughout a document. Office 365 Word for Mac streamlines layout management and teamwork
Word for Mac 2011 includes enhancements in the areas of viewing, template management, publishing, graphics editing, typography, search, collaboration, and programmability. The new Focus View feature enables you to remove non-essential elements to increase the screen space dedicated to displaying your document. The Word Document Gallery simplifies access to built-in and custom templates and recently opened documents. Enhanced desktop publishing capabilities include a better Publishing Layout view, the ability to reorder layers dynamically, and additional graphic editing features that include background removal.
Word for Mac 2008 introduced an improved user interface that has an extensible toolbar and introduced a basic publishing capability via the Publishing Layout View that provides increased precision over layout of text and graphics and allows you to chain text overflow from a given page to a specified text box on another page. Additional features built into Word for Mac 2008 include support for OpenType ligatures for more professional-looking fonts, and reference tools that allow a variety of citation formats. Word for Mac 2008 supports AppleScript but doesn't work with VBasic for Applications. Word for Mac 2004 introduced a Notebook View that enables you to flag critical sections, search for specified terms, and add date-stamped voice recordings into your notes while you type. Reference Utilities permit you to access a dictionary or a thesaurus directly from the Office Toolbox, although there is also a link to Microsoft's discontinued Microsoft Encarta online encyclopedia. Office 365 Excel for Mac and Excel for Mac 2016 include new PivotTable Slicers to enable you to discover patterns within large volumes of data. A new add-on, the Analysis Toolpak, facilitates sophisticated statistical and engineering analyses. Compatibility with PC versions of Excel is improved through support for common keyboard shortcuts and for the majority of the functions found in Office Excel 2013 for Windows. Other improvements include a better Formula Builder Pane and the ability to print to a single PDF file.
Microsoft Office 365 Excel for Mac enhances interchangeability with Windows spreadsheets
Excel for Mac 2011 includes enhancements in the areas of data analysis and charting, speed, graphics editing, scripting, data protection, and sharing. The new Sparklines capability provides an instantaneous graphical summary of Excel information via tiny charts that fit inside a spreadsheet cell next to the summarized data. Conditional Formatting has been improved to make it easier to format data using icon libraries, data bars, and color scales. You can sort and filter data by color and can access multiple- selection filters and convenient quick filtering options. Tables (previously known as Lists) enable you to make multiple groups of related information for easy editing and analytics.
Microsoft Excel for Mac 2011 PivotTables have improved performance and closer resemblance with Windows versions of Office Excel. Improved editing capabilities and SmartArt images allow you to create polished-looking graphics without the use of extra photo-editing software. As with Word for Mac 2011, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) support has been resumed, improving compatibility with Office Excel for Windows and introducing advanced features such as IntelliSense, watch windows, and a new VBA debugging tool. You can manage access to workbooks via Information Rights Management and collaborate on protected workbooks across operating systems. To enhance collaboration, Office Excel for Mac 2011 enables you to create platform-independent workbooks and transfer dates among workbooks without being required to distinguish between 1900 vs. 1904 date systems.
Excel for Mac 2008 supports as many cells as the Windows version of Excel and introduced the Formula Builder for streamlining the creation of complex formulas. Microsoft Excel for Mac 2008 also includes an Elements Gallery with templates for popular tasks such as company payroll. As with the 2008 edition of Word for Mac, Excel for Mac 2008 does not support Visual Basic for Applications. Office 365 PowerPoint for Mac makes it easier to design and deliver pro-quality presentations
PowerPoint for Mac 2011 includes new and improved functionality in the areas of template organization and customization, picture touchup, video support, animated effects, layer and slide control, timing, collaboration, security, search, speed, and programmability. PowerPoint's Media Browser provides easy access to a broad selection of media libraries including iPhoto albums, iTunes playlists, and iMovie libraries plus shapes, Clip Art and other graphical content. The Presentation Presentation Gallery simplifies control of pre-built and custom templates as well as recent presentations. Improved image editing features include a background removal tool and tools for correction, color, and trimming. You can also incorporate and format videos from inside PowerPoint to make them an integral part of a show, making it easier to distribute and manage sophisticated slide shows. You can easily include 3-D slide transitions and have access to an extensive collection of animation effects, extensible themes, improved chart tools, and more SmartArt graphics with new layouts for org charts and image diagrams.
PowerPoint for Mac 2008 introduced Smart Art graphics for quickly turning bulleted displays into a variety of diagrams. The Object Palette in the Toolbox consolidates formatting options for fast detailing. A zoom slider makes it easy to alter the size of elements. PowerPoint for Mac 2004 includes Presenter Tools that permit you to keep your slide show properly paced and let you make mid-show changes via the controls displayed in the presenterís window. Custom animation and transitions enable you to make more engaging slide shows. A font formatting tool offers more control in selecting typography options such as spacing, size, and opacity.
- Office Outlook for Mac and Entourage
Office 365 Outlook for Mac and Outlook for Mac 2016 include important new features like support for push email to keep your inbox current, online archiving to free up mailbox space, the ability to propose a new meeting time in response to a meeting request, and the ability to see multiple calendars concurrently. In addition, navigation has been modernized for moving between Mail, Calendar, People, Tasks, and Notes. Other improvements include the convenient display of conversation threads in your inbox plus message preview to help you determine quickly how to handle new emails. With an Office 365 subscription, Full Screen Mode enables you to have several open messages or to operate two instances of Outlook in split-screen view.
Office 365 Outlook for Mac allows side-by-side and overlay calendars to simplify scheduling
Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 replaces Microsoft Entourage and has been re-architected to provide substantial enhancements in the areas of usability, calendar management, backup and restore, search, Windows integration, sharing, performance, video conferencing, voice mail, mobility support, Instant Messaging, and presence. The Office Outlook for Mac database for email, contacts, and calendars is now stored in separate text files, making them simpler to control.
