Office 365 Word for Mac and Word for Mac 2016 feature a new Design Tab that provides immediate access to design elements and makes it easy to control layout, colors and fonts throughout a Word document. A new Insights Pane automatically retrieves and shows relevant information from the web to provide rich context for authors and readers. Another new feature is threaded comments, which promotes teamwork by tracking conversations and displaying them adjacent to the associated content. Enhancements include simpler processes for inviting colleagues to review and edit documents, simultaneous coauthoring of documents, and integrated Mail Merge capabilities that utilize Word, Excel and Outlook. As with newer versions of Office Excel and PowerPoint for Mac, Office 365 Word for Mac allows you to navigate documents with Multi-Touch gestures.
Office 365 Word for Mac simplifies layout management and collaboration
Word for Mac 2011 includes improvements in the areas of document viewing, template management, desktop publishing, graphics editing, typography, document search, sharing, and programmability. The innovative Focus View feature allows you to remove distracting elements to increase the screen area available for displaying your document. The Word Document Gallery simplifies management of built-in and custom templates as well as recent documents. Improved desktop publishing functions include a more powerful Publishing Layout view, the dynamic layer order, and more comprehensive image editing features that include a background removal tool.
Word for Mac 2008 introduced an improved user interface that has an extensible toolbar and incorporates a basic publishing toolset via the Publishing View that provides more control in the positioning of words and images and enables you to chain text overflow from one area to a specified text box on another page. Other capabilities built into Microsoft Word for Mac 2008 include support for OpenType ligatures for better looking fonts, and reference utilities that support various citation styles. Word for Mac 2008 works with AppleScript but doesn't support Visual Basic for Applications. Word for Mac 2004 introduced a Notebook Layout View that allows you to tag important entries, find specified words and phrases, and add date-stamped audio into your notes while you write. The Track Changes feature makes it easier to trace edits and enables you to accept or ignore edits from the comments. Reference Tools allow you to access a dictionary or a thesaurus directly from the Office Toolbox, although there is also a hyperlink to Microsoft's discontinued Encarta web encyclopedia. The Navigation Pane allows you to browse through your work using the convenient thumbnail view.

Office 365 Excel for Mac and Excel for Mac 2016 introduce PivotTable Slicers to enable you to discover patterns hidden in massive volumes of data. A new add-on, the Analysis Toolpak, facilitates complex statistical and engineering analyses. Interchangeability with PC versions of Excel is enhanced with support for common keyboard shortcuts and for the majority of the functions included with Excel 2013 for Windows. Additional improvements include a better Formula Builder Pane and the ability to print to a single PDF file.
Microsoft Office 365 Excel for Mac enhances compatibility with Windows spreadsheets
Excel for Mac 2011 includes enhancements in the areas of information and visualization, speed, graphics editing, scripting, security, and collaboration. The new Sparklines capability provides an instantaneous visual representation of Excel data by means of miniature charts that fit within a spreadsheet cell adjacent to the summarized data. Conditional Formatting has been enhanced to make it easier to format data using icon sets, bars, and color scales. You can now sort and filter data by color and use multi- select filters and new quick filtering options. Tables (previously known as Lists) enable you to create multiple groupings of related information for efficient editing and analytics.
Microsoft Excel for Mac 2011 PivotTables have enhanced performance and closer resemblance with Windows editions of Office Excel. New and enhanced editing tools and SmartArt graphics allow you to create professional-looking images/ without requiring extra photo-editing tools. As with Word for Mac 2011, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) support has returned, enhancing compatibility with Office Excel for Windows and offering advanced features such as IntelliSense, watch windows, and a new VBA debugging tool. You can control access to workbooks by using Information Rights Management (IRM) and collaborate on secure workbooks across operating systems. To improve sharing, Office Excel for Mac 2011 allows you to produce cross-platform workbooks and exchange dates between workbooks without being required to differentiate between 1900 vs. 1904 date systems.
Microsoft Office Excel for Mac 2008 manages as many cells as the Windows version of Excel and introduced the Formula Builder for simplifying the creation of complex formulas. Microsoft Excel for Mac 2008 also includes an Elements Gallery with built-in templates for popular tasks including company payroll. Just like the 2008 version of Word for Mac, Excel for Mac 2008 doesn't support Visual Basic for Applications. Microsoft Excel for Mac 2004 introduced a Layout View that permits you to read and manipulate in a window exactly what will print, conveniently scale data to match the right page count, and add headers and footers with a click. Smart Buttons permit you to track down and repair spreadsheet formula errors and manage how AutoFill applies formatting to your data. Additional tools allow you to view the correct syntax for a library of functions, and to click and drag to change ranges with the updated Range Finder. XML file support enables you to use XML to share data.

Microsoft Office 365 PowerPoint for Mac and PowerPoint for Mac 2016 include the new Theme Variants feature that makes it simple to change the look of a presentation by switching the color scheme. Teamwork is also improved with extensive coauthoring support. Office 365 PowerPoint for Mac makes it easier to create and deliver pro-quality presentations
PowerPoint for Mac 2011 includes enhanced capabilities in the areas of template organization and customization, image editing, video support, transitions, layer and slide control, timing, collaboration, protection, search, speed, and scripting. The Media Browser provides convenient access to a wide range of media libraries including iPhoto albums, iTunes playlists, and iMovie collections plus shapes, Clip Art and other visual data. The PowerPoint Presentation Gallery streamlines management of built-in and specialized templates plus recent shows. New picture editing capabilities include a background deletion function plus tools for touchup, color, and cropping. You can also embed and format movies from inside PowerPoint for Mac to make them an integral part of a show, making it easier to share and control complex slide shows. You can easily add 3-dimensional slide transitions and are provided with an expanded library of animations, extensible themes, enhanced chart tools, and additional SmartArt images with new layouts for organization charts and image diagrams.
Microsoft PowerPoint for Mac 2008 introduced Smart Art graphics for quickly turning bulleted displays into a variety of diagrams or flowcharts. The Object Palette in the Toolbox consolidates formatting controls for fast detailing. A slider makes it easy to alter the size of elements. A command for sending to Apple's iPhoto enables you to view presentations with an iPod or iPad. Microsoft PowerPoint for Mac 2008 also is compatible with an Apple Remote,
Microsoft PowerPoint for Mac 2004 introduced Presenter Tools that permit you to make your slide show well paced and allow mid-show changes using the controls displayed in the presenterís view window. Animation and 3D transitions enable you to create more dynamic slide shows. The Format Font dialog box provides more precision in specifying font options including positioning, size, and opacity.
- Office Outlook for Mac and Entourage
Office 365 Outlook for Mac and Outlook for Mac 2016 include important new features such as support for push email to keep your inbox current, online archiving to conserve mailbox storage, the ability to suggest a new meeting time in answer to a meeting request, and the ability to see multiple calendars concurrently. Also, navigation has been simplified for switching between Mail, Calendar, People, Tasks, and Notes. Other improvements include the display of conversation threads in your inbox plus message preview to help you determine immediately how to deal with new emails. If you have an Office 365 subscription, Full Screen Mode allows you to have multiple open messages or to run two instances of Office Outlook in split-screen view.
Office 365 Outlook for Mac supports side-by-side and overlay calendars to simplify scheduling
Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 takes the place of Microsoft Entourage and has been re-architected to provide significant improvements in the areas of usability, scheduling, backup and restoration, search, Windows compatibility, collaboration, performance, voice and video conferencing, voice mail, mobility, Instant Messaging, and rich presence. The Outlook for Mac database for email, contacts, and calendars is now saved in separate text files, making them simpler to control. Microsoft Outlook for Mac is also Spotlight searchable and capable of being copied and restored with Apple Time Machine. Setting up accounts has been simplified so you can quickly add either Exchange-based accounts or accounts from major services such as Gmail, Microsoft Hotmail, Apple MobileMe, Yahoo!, Windows Live, and AOL.
Office Outlook for Mac now puts your email, drafts, sent mail and erased items for all of your mailboxes in consolidated folders so you no longer have to check separate accounts and folders. The Conversations capability automatically groups related messages to simplify keeping track of threads. The Quick Look function allows you to preview file attachments that can include Office or PDF files, photos, and videos. The Contacts Search panel enables you to search your contact data from any Outlook 2011 view by entering any element in any contact field.
