Cisco's Small Business 100, 300 and 500 series wireless access points are Linux-based devices designed as entry-level 802.11n Wi-Fi solutions for small offices. Many models in the Cisco Small Business family of wireless access points support Cisco's Single Point Setup technology, which makes it possible to configure, manage and troubleshoot a cluster of access points from a single device via a simple browser-based interface. All models support Power over Ethernet (POE) and feature QoS, rogue access point detection, and bridge mode for wirelessly connecting to a second Ethernet network.
The Cisco Small Business WAP121 Wireless-N Access Point is a wall-mountable, single-band 2.4GHz device that can support 16 active 802.11b/g/n clients, includes a 10/100 Ethernet interface, allows up to four AP devices and 40 active clients in a cluster, and can handle data rates of 300 Mbps. Cisco's Small Business WAP131 is a desktop dual-band 2.4/5 GHz 802.11a/b/g/n wireless access point that can support 16 active clients per radio for a total of up to 32 clients, includes a 10/100/1000 Ethernet port, and can support sustained data rates of 300 Mbps for each radio. The WAP131 does not support clustering. The Cisco WAP150 is a value-priced Wave 1 dual-radio AC/n access point that includes a 1xGE Power over Ethernet (PoE) port and can support 16 clients per radio with 867 Mbps throughput for 802.11ac clients and 300 Mbps for 802.11n clients. The WAP150 supports 4 access points per cluster.
Cisco's WAP321 Wireless-N model is a wall-mountable selectable-band (either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz) 802.11a/b/g/n wireless access point with support for up to 80 clients in an 8-device cluster. The WAP321 includes a 10/100/1000 Ethernet port and can support a data rate of 300 Mbps for the selected radio. The Cisco WAP351 is a dual-band 2.4/5 GHz 802.11a/b/g/n wireless access point that includes a 5-port Gigabit Ethernet switch, can support 32 clients per radio for a total of up to 64 active clients, and can handle 300 Mbps data rates for each radio. The Cisco WAP361 is a dual-band 2.4/5 GHz 802.11ac Wave 1 access point that includes a 5-port Gigabit Ethernet switch and can support 32 active WLAN clients per radio and delivers 867 Mbps throughput for 802.11ac clients and 300 Mbps performance for 802.11n clients. The WAP361 allows 8 WAP361 access points per cluster. Cisco's wall-mountable WAP371 Wireless-AC/N is a dual-band unit that supports 802.11a/b/g/n as well as the new 802.11ac IEEE standard. The WAP371 has a GE port, can handle up to 32 active clients on each radio, and supports 8 access points per cluster.
The Cisco WAP561 Wireless-N Dual Radio Selectable Band Access Point includes a Gigabit Ethernet LAN interface and offers high performance with a dual concurrent radio (2.4 and 5.0 GHz) that supports 450 Mbps throughput and 64 clients per radio plus 16 APs per cluster. The WAP551 is similar to the WAP 561 but has a single radio selectable band (2.4 or 5.0 GHz). The WAP571 and WAP571E (the ruggedized outdoor version) are dual-radio 802.11ac Wave 1 access points featuring 2xGE Ethernet ports with link aggregation (LAG), 3x3 MIMO, and up to 1.9Gbps throughput with 1300 Mbps 11ac and 600 Mbps 11n. Both devices support 32 active WAN clients per radio and 16 WAP361 access points per cluster.
Cisco's Aironet Family of Wireless Access Points
Cisco's Aironet family of indoor and outdoor wireless access points has for years been the top-selling AP solution. Aironet APs range from value-priced entry-level models to enterprise-class APs. The Aironet line span several generations of devices supporting the evolving 802.11x Wi-Fi standard. The latest Aironet APs support Cisco's Unified Wireless Network software and incorporate 802.11ac Wi-Fi technology, which offers triple the performance as well as greater range and user density compared to the previous generation of devices. Cisco Wave 2 802.11ac WiFi LAN Controllers
Cisco Wave 2 Wi-Fi controllers enable realtime data exchange, configuration, control, analysis and troubleshooting for Cisco wireless appliances and services. Cisco has developed both physical and virtual Wi-Fi controllers for centralized administration of wireless environments, but WLANs with many Wi-Fi APs typically require physical Wi-Fi controllers. Wave 2 Wi-Fi controller devices from Cisco offer major benefits in comparison to Wave 1 and older models including greater performance, concurrent support for 1G and 10G interfaces, enhanced application visibility and control (AVC), and advanced, built-in protection.
The Cisco 3504 WiFi Controller is a value-priced device available in a desktop form factor and intended for small and medium-sized organizations. You can install the 3504 in a centralized network environment such as in lean branch and remote offices managed over the WAN with FlexConnect, or in bridge deployments where wiring is sparse. The 3504 wireless controller supports up to 150 access points and 3,000 clients, delivers 4 Gbps throughput, and supports 4,096 VLANs. The 3504 controller includes a multi-gigabit Ethernet port and four 1-GB Ethernet interfaces. Access points can be attached to the controller through two PoE ports. The 3504 Wi-Fi controller offers subsecond failover for APs and clients, which allows uninterrupted availability for apps. As with other Wave 2 wireless controllers from Cisco, the 3504 model has the integrated ability to work with Cisco Prime Infrastructure, Cisco Mobility Services, and Cisco 5520 and 8540 WiFi controllers.
The Cisco 5520 WiFi Controller, offered in a 1 rack unit (RU) package, is intended for larger organizations and campus environments and can be used in centralized, distributed, and mesh deployments. The 5520 wireless controller can handle up to 1,500 wireless APs and 20,000 clients, delivers 20 Gbps performance, and supports up to 4,096 VLANs. The 5520 model controller includes two 10 GE interfaces and incorporates SSD storage, redundant fans, optional dual power supplies, and subsecond failover for uninterrupted availability.
Cisco's 8540 Wireless Controller, offered in a 2 rack unit enclosure, is a high-end WiFi controller intended to support large enterprises, service providers, and large campuses. The 8540 WiFi controller can be run in centralized, distributed, and mesh deployments and can handle as many as 6,000 access points and 64,000 clients. The 8540 WiFi controller can deliver data rates up to 40 Gbps and supports up to 4,096 VLANs. The 8340 includes four 1-GB or 10GE ports and features SSD storage, dual power supplies, redundant fans, and rapid failover.
Wave 1 Cisco WiFi Network Controllers
Cisco wireless network controllers cut the time and expense required to configure, manage, and troubleshoot Wi-Fi networks by offering single-point control of tasks like setting up wireless access points, applying consistent policies across converged wired/wireless LANs, supporting enterprise-wide QoS for IP voice and HD video, tracking and troubleshooting system health, activating wireless intrusion prevention system (wIPS) tools to guard against cyber break-ins and DoS threats, and handling IPv6 and dual-stack clients. Cisco has developed wireless LAN controllers for businesses of any size and can provide desktop or rackmount controllers, modular plug-in controllers for Cisco ISR routers and Catalyst switches, and Catalyst switches with built-in wireless LAN controllers.
Cisco's Wave 1 WiFi network controllers include Cisco CleanAir tools to avoid RF interference and create self-healing wireless LANs for maximum 802.11n and 802.11ac performance and security. Built-in Bonjour Gateways allow discovery and policy throughout WLAN, LAN and WAN for Apple applications. For fault tolerance, Cisco wireless LAN controllers support AP and client stateful failover by permitting a standby high-availability wireless controller to synchronize with a primary controller for access point license count, CAPWAP state and roaming keys, and access point CAPWAP state. In case the primary wireless controller fails, thousands of wireless access points and wireless clients can failover in less than a second to the secondary wireless controller.
Cisco's Wireless Controller Module for ISR Routers with UCS-E provides basic 802.11n and 802.11ac capability for 2900 and 3900 routers deployed by small to medium-sized organizations and branches. This value-priced and scalable module can support up to 200 wireless access points and as many as 6000 wireless clients. The Cisco 8500 Wireless Controller is a 1RU appliance engineered to monitor and manage wireless networks for large campuses or service providers and can be expanded to handle up to 6000 wireless points and up to 64,000 clients while offering 10 Gbps performance.

Legacy Cisco Wireless Bridges and Controllers Supported by Progent
