Progent is seeking Desktop Support Experts to help our clients with maintenance, break/fix and project work. This is a 1099 consulting role that will be performed at our client locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daytime availability is required, Monday through Friday. Our consultant will maintain and support clients of all desktop and notebook computers based on the latest Microsoft technologies. In addition, work extensively with customer's executives, management, IT staff or under the direction or guidance of Progent's senior consultant to support the client's end users.

  • Setup and validate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configurations
  • Basic network administration, including user maintenance

Essential Activities

Responsibilities
  • Support, diagnose and troubleshoot problems with all versions of Microsoft Windows-powered PC and notebook systems and others as needed.
  • Work directly with computer end users in helping to find and fix app and operating system problems that hinder user productivity
  • Install, integrate and test a variety of popular apps on user PCs
  • Operate on-premises to diagnose and fix both urgent and persistent problems that reduce the reliability, security, performance, accessibility, and overall capability of workstations, laptops, printers and other end user equipment
  • Deploy new end-user hardware and help with other installations, upgrades, and exchanges of workstations, laptop computers and associated hardware
  • Provide the timely diagnosis and remediation of desktops and notebooks and associated equipment
  • Stay updated with an expert knowledge of workstation and laptop applications and utilization of WAN infrastructure including the Internet

Experience

Minimum Professional Experience Requirements
  • Three years experience in workstation admin new software setup, computer and peripheral integration, trouble analysis and correction)
  • Strong computer troubleshooting and fault isolation skill, knowledge to implement short-term patches to solve network issues and escalate support when necessary
  • In-depth experience delivering software assistance to small companies for all Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Office 365 apps including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Excellent speaking and written communication skills
  • Proven commitment to facilitating continuous operations
  • Operate without supervision and show distinct characteristics of ownership and drive
