Office 365 Word for Mac and Word for Mac 2016 feature a new Design Tab that provides immediate access to design elements and makes it easy to manage layout, colors and fonts across a Word document. As with newer versions of Office Excel and PowerPoint for Mac, Office 365 Word for Mac lets you to navigate documents with familiar Multi-Touch gestures.
Microsoft Office 365 Word for Mac streamlines layout management and collaboration
Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 features improvements in the areas of viewing, template control, publishing, image editing, typography, search, collaboration, and programmability. The innovative Focus View feature enables you to eliminate distracting elements to increase the screen space dedicated to displaying your document. The new Word Document Gallery simplifies management of standard and customized templates and recent documents. Enhanced publishing capabilities include a more powerful Publishing Layout view, the ability to reorder layers dynamically, and additional image editing tools including a background removal tool.
Microsoft Word for Mac 2008 introduced an improved user interface that has a customizable toolbar and incorporates a basic desktop publishing toolset through the Publishing Layout View that offers more control over positioning of text and graphics and allows you to chain text overflow from a given page to any text box on any page. Other features built into Microsoft Word for Mac 2008 include OpenType ligatures for more professional-looking fonts, and reference tools that support various citation formats. Microsoft Word for Mac 2008 works with AppleScript but does not work with VBasic for Applications. Word for Mac 2004 introduced a Notebook View that enables you to tag important sections, search for key words and phrases, and add time-stamped voice recordings into your notes while you write. Reference Tools allow you to access a dictionary or a thesaurus right from the Microsoft Office Toolbox, although there is also a hyperlink to Microsoft's now discontinued Encarta online encyclopedia. The Navigation Pane allows you to navigate through your document using the improved thumbnail view.

Office 365 Excel for Mac and Excel for Mac 2016 include new PivotTable Slicers to enable you to detect patterns within massive volumes of data. A new add-on, the Analysis Toolpak, facilitates sophisticated statistical and engineering analyses. Interchangeability with Windows versions of Excel is enhanced with support for common keyboard shortcuts and for most of the functions found in Office Excel 2013 for Windows. Additional improvements include a better Formula Builder Pane and the ability to print to a single PDF file.
Office 365 Excel for Mac enhances interchangeability with Windows spreadsheets
Microsoft Excel for Mac 2011 includes enhancements in the areas of information and visualization, performance, graphics editing, scripting, data protection, and collaboration. The innovative Sparklines feature offers an immediate graphical representation of Excel data by means of tiny charts that are displayed inside a cell next to the summarized values. Conditional Formatting has been enhanced to make it simpler to format data using icon sets, bars, and colors. You can now sort and filter data by color and can access multi- select filters and new quick filtering options. Tables (before known as Lists) allow you to create multiple groups of associated data for efficient editing and analytics.
Excel for Mac 2011 PivotTables have improved speed and closer resemblance with Windows versions of Office Excel. Improved editing capabilities and SmartArt images/ allow you to create professional-looking images/ without the use of extra photo-editing tools. As with Word for Mac 2011, VBA support has returned, enhancing compatibility with Office Excel for Windows and introducing advanced features including IntelliSense, watch windows, and a new Visual Basic debugging utility. You can manage access to workbooks via Information Rights Management (IRM) and collaborate on secure workbooks across platforms. To enhance collaboration, Office Excel for Mac 2011 permits you to create platform-independent workbooks and transfer dates between workbooks without having to distinguish between 1900 vs. 1904 date systems.
Microsoft Office Excel for Mac 2008 manages as many cells as the Windows edition of Excel and introduced the Formula Builder for streamlining the writing of complex formulas. Excel for Mac 2008 also includes an Elements Gallery with built-in templates for popular applications including payroll. As with the 2008 edition of Microsoft Word for Mac, Microsoft Excel for Mac 2008 does not support Visual Basic for Applications. XML support allows you to use Extensible Markup Language (XML) to share data.

Office 365 PowerPoint for Mac and PowerPoint for Mac 2016 include the new Theme Variants function that makes it simple to alter the look of a presentation by switching the color scheme. PowerPoint for Mac 2011 includes enhanced capabilities in the areas of template management, image touchup, video support, animations and transitions, layer and slide management, pacing, sharing, protection, search, speed, and scripting. The Media Browser allows easy access to a wide selection of media libraries such as iPhoto albums, iTunes playlists, and iMovie libraries as well as shapes, Clip Art and other graphical data. The Presentation Presentation Gallery streamlines management of pre-built and custom templates as well as recently opened presentations. Improved picture editing features include a background removal function and tools for correction, color, and trimming. You can also embed and format videos from within PowerPoint to make them an integral part of a show, making it simpler to share and manage sophisticated presentations. You can also include 3-dimensional slide transitions and have access to an expanded library of animation effects, extensible themes, improved chart tools, and more SmartArt graphics with new layouts for org charts and image diagrams.
PowerPoint for Mac 2008 includes Smart Art graphics for quickly converting bulleted displays into a variety of diagrams. The Object Palette in the Toolbox consolidates formatting options for quick updating. A zoom slider makes it easy to change the size of elements. A command for sending to iPhoto allows you to watch slide shows using an iPod or iPad. Microsoft PowerPoint for Mac 2008 also is compatible with an Apple Remote,
Microsoft PowerPoint for Mac 2004 introduced Presenter functions that permit you to keep your slide show well paced and allow mid-show changes by means of the tools displayed in the presenterís view window. Custom animation and 3D transitions enable you to create more engaging presentations. The font formatting tool offers more control in selecting font characteristics such as spacing, size, and transparency.
- Outlook for Mac and Entourage
Office 365 Outlook for Mac and Outlook for Mac 2016 include important new features such as support for push email to keep your inbox current, online archiving to free up mailbox storage, the ability to propose a new meeting time in response to a meeting invitation, and the ability to view multiple calendars concurrently. Also, navigation has been modernized for moving between Mail, Calendar, People, Tasks, and Notes. Additional enhancements include the convenient display of conversation threads in your inbox plus message preview to help you determine quickly how to deal with new emails. If you have an Office 365 subscription, Full Screen Mode enables you to have several open messages or to operate two instances of Outlook in split-screen view.
Office 365 Outlook for Mac supports side-by-side and overlay calendars for easier scheduling
Microsoft Office Outlook for Mac 2011 replaces Entourage and has been re-architected to deliver significant enhancements in the areas of email creation and management, calendar management, backup and restore, search, Windows compatibility, collaboration, speed, voice and video conferencing, voice mail, mobility, Instant Messaging, and presence. The Office Outlook for Mac database for email, contacts, and calendars is now saved in separate text files, making them simpler to control. Microsoft Outlook for Mac is also Spotlight searchable and able to be copied and recovered using Apple Time Machine. Microsoft Office Outlook for Mac 2011 now automatically puts your email, draft messages, sent mail and deleted messages for all of your mailboxes in consolidated folders so you no longer have to look through separate accounts and folders. The new Conversations capability automatically groups related messages to simplify keeping track of email threads. The Quick Look feature enables you to preview file attachments that can include Office or Acrobat PDF files, photos, and videos.
